CBB DFS Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Core Plays | Feb. 4

Studs Tier

Luka Garza ($10,000) — As usual, Garza enters the DraftKings and FanDuel main slate with the top overall projection. This particular slate provides little value, making Garza particularly hard to roster. However, Iowa’s 81-point implied team total leads the slate by over five points. Behind Garza, Iowa’s rotation has increased, making the Hawkeyes a difficult team to navigate. Despite the elevated price, Garza is the safest Hawkeye to target in a tough matchup against Ohio State’s 71st ranked interior defense.

Timmy Allen ($8,300) — Playing in the second-highest totaled game on the slate, Utah is a 1.5-point underdog to Arizona. Coming in $1,700 cheaper than Garza, Allen offers similar rates. Allen has played at least 30 minutes in three straight games for Utah. He also accounts for a 22% shot rate, 26.7% rebound rate and 30.2% assist rate in Utah’s last three games. Arizona ranks 53rd in defensive efficiency, but Allen enters this contest with two straight double-doubles. For those coming off Garza, Allen offers similar upside at a discounted price.

Marcus Carr ($7,900) — Entering the slate as a 5.5-point underdog to Rutgers, Carr is underpriced for his elite 24.1% usage rate. Carr has played at least 35 minutes in each of Minnesota’s last three games, accounting for 27.3% of the shots, 18.6% of the rebounds and 26.2% of the assists. This is a solid buy-low spot for Carr after he shot 2-for-13 from the field while recording 4 fouls against Purdue. Prior to that contest, Carr scored 17 and 25 points. While Rutgers ranks 109th in defensive efficiency, Carr’s elite usage looks difficult to avoid.

Eugene Omoruyi ($7,300) — Oregon has played just one game since Jan. 9 due to an extended COVID-19 stoppage. Returning to action tonight, the Ducks carry elevated risk, but a few players are underpriced. In particular, Omoruyi looks like a strong value. Omoruyi has a team-leading 21% usage rate for the Ducks and has played at least 35 minutes in two of his last three games. On the year Omoruyi has a 22.5% shot rate, 14.1% rebound rate and 16.5% assist rate. Washington State plays strong interior defense (19th in the country), but Omoruyi scores all over the floor. He ranks third on Oregon in 3-point attempts so far this season.

Mid-Priced Tier

Jaiden Delaire ($6,800) — Projected to play in a slow, low-scoring affair against Cal, Stanford players still offer intrigue because of three missing starters. Ziaire Williams ($7,600) is questionable due to COVID-19 protocols. Daejon Davis ($6,000) and Bryce Wills ($4,900) both haven’t played in multiple games due to knee injuries. In their place, Delaire has stepped up with an increasing 16.1% usage rate. Looking at Stanford’s last three games along, Delaire has accounted for 25.7% of the shots and 9.4% oft the rebounds. While Delaire’s shot rate leads to volatility, his role in Stanford’s offense is elite. Cal ranks 271st in defensive efficiency, creating another opportunity for Delaire to hit value in this spot.

Bennedict Mathurin ($6,200) — On the other side of the Utah game, Arizona offers a number of mid-priced options. While Azuolas Tubelis ($6,500) is also underpriced, Mathurin looks like a particularly solid value. After suffering an ankle injury, Mathurin has functioned as Arizona’s sixth man in two straight games. However, Mathurin recent saw his minutes rise to 26 in each of those contests. Utah ranks 256th in 3-point defense and Mathurin ranks second among healthy Arizona players in 3-point attempts. Prior to the injury, Mathurin started for the Wildcats and should eventually return to this role. With the matchup working in his favor, Mathurin offers a solid option in the mid-priced range.

L.J. Figueroa ($6,400) — Another underpriced Oregon player, Figueroa will play tonight after missing Oregon’s most recent contest due to COVID-19 protocols. Prior to the absence, Figueroa played at least 27 minutes in two-straight games. Figueroa has a solid 12.6% shot rate and 15.3% shot rate on the year. Figueroa is also a candidate to take on more usage with Eric Williams ($7,000) slated to miss this game due to Covid-19 protocols. Despite the uncertainty, Oregon still has the third-highest implied team total on the slate at 74.

Value Tier

Kyle Young ($4,800) — Mentioned above, this DraftKings and FanDuel slate offers essentially zero value. All three plays mentioned below are thin, but it is necessary to roster at least one in order to jam studs into lineups. Young offers punt appeal for Ohio state after battling foul trouble in the Buckeyes’ most recent game. Prior to his 18-minute performance, Young notched 27 and 25 minutes in back-to-back games. Young only has an 11.5% usage rate this season, but he still accounts for 16.5% of the team’s rebounds. Despite entering the slate as 5.5-point underdogs, Ohio State has the second-highest implied team total on the entire card. Still starting, Young offers salary relief on the main slate.

Riley Battin ($4,400) — On a slate short on value, Utah sixth man Battin could provide value. Utah continues to shake up their rotation, but Battin has actually played a somewhat consistent role off the bench. He has played at least 23 minutes in back-to-back games for Utah with a 15% usage rate. He scored 15 and 9 points in those contests as well, creating upside for more usage moving forward as well. With Rylan Jones ($4,500) and Branden Carlson ($5,600) seeing decreasing minutes in three straight games, Utah may even decide to start Battin sometime soon. Still carrying risk as the sixth man, Battin offers dart-throw appeal in tournaments.

Tre’ Williams ($4,200) — Minnesota decided to shake up their starting lineup in their last game. The Gophers moved Both Gach ($4,600) to the bench and started Williams in his place. In that contest, Williams played 23 minutes and performed well in his time on the court. He scored 8 points while adding 5 rebounds. If starting again, Williams could see his role expand further. With little other value on the slate, Williams provides upside in the punt play range.
