Alabama Crimson Tide Breakdown

Alabama is fresh off a National Championship 13-0 season. As usual, Saban will replace much of his roster and coaching staff. Alabama returns three starters on offense and eight on defense. They lost notable round picks in Mac Jones, Najee Harris, Devonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, Alex Leatherwood, Landon Dickerson and Patrick Surtain.

At quarterback Alabama will move forward with former No. 2 overall recruit Bryce Young. Young is unproven and will not have the luxury of playing alongside Waddle and Smith. He also returns just two offensive linemen.

At running back Brian Robinson figures to get the first crack at the job. Jase McClellan, Trey Sanders and Roydell Williams are all capable backs as well. Sanders missed nine games last year but should return healthy. McClellan averaged an absurd 10.7 yards per carry. They also recruited five-star back Camar Wheaton.

At receiver Alabama moves forward with John Metchie and Slade Bolden as their top two options. Metchie ranked second on the team in receiving with 55 receptions for 916 yards and six touchdowns. Bolden finished sixth with 24 catches and 270 yards. Rather than use Bolden as a full-time option last year, Alabama moved to more two-tight-end sets. Four-star freshman Agiye Hall is reportedly first in line to start. They also have Ohio State transfer Jameson Williams and incumbents Javon Baker and Xavier Williams. Incoming freshmen include Jacorey Brooks, Christian Leary and JoJo Earle.

Tight end is a position of strength, with the return of move tight end Jahleel Billingsley. Billingsley is one of the more versatile tight ends in the country and even returned kicks for Alabama. He finished as the fifth leading receiver, with 18 catches for 287 yards.

Alabama’s offensive line returns two starters in Evan Neal and Emil Ekiyor. Both started 13 games last year for the top offensive line in the country. Kendall Randolph has nine starts and should play right tackle. He alternated between offensive line and tight end, but he is nearly 300 pounds and served as Leatherwood’s backup last year. Chris Owens has four starts and should play center.

On defense they lose Christian Barmore, Dylan Moses and Surtain. They return elite production everywhere. Phidarian Mathis, D.J. Dale and LaBryan Ray all started multiple games. Will Anderson was second on the team in sacks from his rush linebacker position. Christopher Allen, Christian Harris and Shane Lee provide starting experience, while Henry To’o To’o transfers in from Tennessee. Josh Jobe defended 11 passes, and Malachi Moore defended six. Jordan Battle, Daniel Wright and Brian Branch also return as the team’s top three safeties.

Alabama Football Betting Outlook

Alabama reloaded on both sides of the ball and figures to be double-digit favorite in the majority of games. They draw a tough non-conference game against Miami in Week 1. Luckily, D’Eriq King may not be healthy. Alabama faces Florida and Texas A&M on the road while drawing LSU at home. They should walk through the rest of their schedule and have a solid shot at another undefeated season.

Alabama’s win total is 11.5, which leaves no margin for error if backing the over. They play tough games against Texas A&M, Florida and LSU. Even with the -130 line, the under is the best bet here.
