CFB DFS Picks: Week 8 College Football Daily Fantasy on DraftKings (FREE)

Another Saturday CFB DFS slate is here and we have an 11 pack of games to breakdown. On FanDuel their main slate is even bigger with some night games included so they have additional games to target. We have big games across the country with some major playoff implications if some of these top teams stumble. On the DFS side we once again have Oklahoma on the slate who are becoming a team that is hard to ignore with the way they can put up points. In addition there are plenty of other interesting spots and games to target for our lineups.

This article is going to highlight some of the big names on the slate and breakdown some of the things to watch as we get another Saturday  kicked off. Make sure to also check out the Saturday Betting breakdown article which breaks down a few games in depth and also talks about a few betting lines that are worth looking into.

** Make sure to monitor news close to lock as a lot of news can break late in CFB. Sometimes there is nothing we can do, but many other times you will be at an advantage if you can swap off someone late when others miss the news **

Quarterback

Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma – 9k DraftKings, 11.8k FanDuel

I’m not going to spend a ton of time on Hurts as he is the premier play on any slate vs basically any opponent. You want to play him and similar to Chuba Hubbard (who we will get to shortly), the only concern is the opportunity cost of rostering him. If we get more and more value opening up closer to lock, Hurts becomes that much more valuable and easier to work into lineups. Hurts has 100-yard rushing ability every single slate and that type of dual threat is almost impossible to replicate on this slate.

Devon Modster, California – 5.7k DraftKings, FanDuel N/A

This game isn’t available on the FanDuel slate, but on DraftKings, take a look at Modster as a possible cheap QB2. California doesn’t have a dynamic offense and Modster was the backup until Chase Garbers went down a few weeks ago. Now it is his team and he gets a chance to lead this offense against a pretty suspect Oregon State defense.

In Modster’s first game of action, he had a tough test at Oregon and the numbers weren’t impressive. The one positive is he rushed the ball 10 times and he clearly has more mobility than Garbers, so the dual-threat upside is in play. That is really what has me interested as he should be able to get in space against Oregon State and at this price tag allows you to spend up elsewhere. Looking at Vegas we see this game has Cal as an 11-point favorite at home so they are expected to have some success on offense.

Also Considering – Jamie Newman (FanDuel) *Questionable – Shoulder

Running Backs

Chuba Hubbard, Oklahoma St – 8.3k DraftKings, 10.5k FanDuel

Hubbard leads the nation in rushing yards and Oklahoma State seems to be willing to run him into the ground which equates to monster potential in fantasy. Hubbard has at least 25 carries in every game that was a reasonable opponent and three games with 30-plus carries, which is hard to ignore. Add in a handful of targets and we have a guy that is going to be touching the ball more than any other skill position player in the entire country.

Oklahoma State is a slight favorite at home against undefeated Baylor this week. They get a big boost as Baylor’s leader on defense, linebacker Clay Johnston, was injured and is now out for the season. That is a massive blow and Hubbard will immediately benefit from the weaker Bears defense that he will face. Obviously, he is expensive on both DraftKings and FanDuel, but I will make room for the premier running back play in the entire country.

Shaun Shivers, Auburn – 3.9k DraftKings , FanDuel N/A

We haven’t seen Auburn since Week 6 when they went into Gainesville and left with their first loss of the season. They were resting up last week, but we did see that starting running back Ja’Tarvious Whitlow underwent surgery and is sidelined indefinitely. That means that both Kam Martin and Shaun Shivers are in line for an increased workload going forward.

Shivers is a sophomore who hasn’t seen more than a handful or carries unless a game has gotten out of hand. While Martin has had more work in 2019, I don’t see a ton of upside there unless he gets a ridiculous share of the carries, which I don’t see happening. Shivers is the more explosive back and can thrive even if he is in a time share situation. Add in that the price hasn’t adjusted to the new role and a matchup with a bad Arkansas team and we have a quality cheap back that can allow you to roster some of those top-tier options in your lineups.

Also Considering – Pooka Williams (FanDuel)

Wide Receivers

Deshaunte Jones, Iowa State – 5.8k DraftKings, 7.7k FanDuel

Iowa State goes to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech in what figures to be a competitive game with some shootout potential. Iowa State is a touchdown favorite and will rely on quarterback Brock Purdy to lead this offense and put points on the board. To do that, he will be leaning on his pass-catchers and that should start with Deshaunte Jones.

So far this season, Jones has 37 catches for 444 yards and a pair of touchdowns and now gets a Texas Tech defense that is 112th in the entire country in yards allowed per passing attempt. That is a perfect spot for Jones to bounce back after somehow recording no catches last week against West Virginia. I have seen no report of him being injured so as of now, it seems to be just an outlier and we can look for the bounce back game in this spot.

Justyn Ross, Clemson – 5.8k DraftKings, 8k FanDuel

When rostering guys on Clemson, the big concern isn’t if Clemson will score enough it’s that we pick the right weapon as they are beyond loaded on offense. Between the dynamic rushing attack and fellow receiver Tee Higgins, there are many ways which Clemson can rack up points in a hurry. Clemson sits as a 24-point favorite on the road against Louisville so points are expected in bunches.

Last week, Clemson looked like the defending national champ against Florida State, winning 45-14 and they were much crisper after that scare against North Carolina a few weeks ago. Ross responded with a 5/61/2 line against Florida State and that was just a glimpse of the skills and upside he possesses. Louisville has no chance to slow down this passing attack and with Ross’ price across the industry, he makes a solid mid-range play once again.
