Week 12 College Football Betting Picks: Cincinnati at UCF

Cincinnati -4.5  at UCF (-115, FanDuel)

College football rolls on despite some cancellations, and we are getting to the thick of the season. Teams are starting to cement themselves as national title contenders, and there are some important games on Saturday that will impact that picture. Some teams still have only played a few games while others are getting to the end of their season which speaks to the craziness of this 2020 CFB year.

We have a ton of potential wagers on a college football Saturday, but I am going to the American Conference for the huge matchup between Cincinnati and Central Florida. The seventh-ranked Bearcats are a 4.5-point favorite on the road, and UCF will be looking to pull the upset at home. Cincinnati needs to remain undefeated to have any hope of crashing the college football playoff, and this is a chance to show the country how good they are.

Cincinnati

I am willing to lay the points here with Cincinnati and believe they are a team worthy of consideration for the CFB playoff. At 7-0, they have answered every challenge so far this season, with their closest game being a 14-point victory against Army. They then crushed 16th-ranked SMU on the road earlier this season 42-13, They have a well-balanced offensive attack that is sure to cause problems for UCF.

Cincinnati is led by quarterback Desmond Ridder, who so far this season has 14 touchdowns passes and adds another nine on the ground. They are a dominant rushing team, with three players scoring six or more rushing touchdowns. The one question is what happens if this team falls behind, as we haven’t seen that this year, but I am confident they can play from behind if needed. They average 39.3 points per game. Against UCF they could easily hang 40 or more again this week.

UCF

The UCF Knights are no strangers to being the darlings of college football, as they went undefeated a few years ago and anointed themselves the CFB National Champions. They are clearly not as good as that version but still are 5-2 on the season and bring a prolific offense into every game. They are averaging 44 points on the season, so Cincinnati will be tested defensively. Quarterback Gabriel Davis comes in with a fantastic 23 passing touchdowns to just two interceptions, and he is the key for this team’s upset chances.

The big concern for UCF is whether or not they can stop Cincinnati, as their defense isn’t great. They gave up 50 points in a loss to Memphis and have allowed 30 in two other games this season. If they allow Cincinnati to rack up that kind of success, it is going to be a long day. They are at home, but home field in 2020 just isn’t the same, so it is hard to quantify how big of a boost that is, if at all.

Final Thoughts

Both teams have a lot to like, especially with the offenses, and the 63.5 over/under shows that points could be put up in bunches. UCF is built to strike quickly and can easily come back if down, as Davis leads one of the better passing attacks in the country. Cincinnati relies more on a balanced rushing attack that has allowed them to clamp down on opponents once they get up early. They haven’t been tested and absolutely crushed a ranked team on the road already this season, so this isn’t unfamiliar territory. With the spread sitting less than a touchdown at -4.5, I am going to the Cincinnati side and think they will take another step towards being in the conversation for the College Football Playoff with a huge road win.
