[AUGUSTA]
Week 11 College Football Betting Picks + CFB Odds: Florida Atlantic vs Florida International
CFB Pick: Florida Atlantic -9.5 (DraftKings)
We have three college games on tap for Friday night football, including a game from the Big Ten. College is really hurting with cancellations due to COVID and the Saturday slate is constantly updating, so keep an eye out for the status of games. However, all three games tonight seem to be good to go, and there is one I am willing to back in the betting market.
It is not a marquee game, but Florida Atlantic comes in as a 9-point road favorite against their in-state rival Florida International. The total is low at just 40.5 points, and that is due to FAU’s defense and FIU’s lack of offense. This game should be slower paced, but that doesn’t mean Florida Atlantic can’t rack up some points and cause some problems on both sides of the ball.
FAU is 3-1, and it is all due to their defense. They allow just 11.5 points per game, fourth best in the country, and they are limiting opponents to just 3.1 yards per rushing attempt. This is going to keep them in games even with a scoring offense that ranks 112th at just 16 points per game. They are experimenting at quarterback with Javion Posey getting some reps, and that will result in a heavy rushing attack for the Owls.

Florida International, meanwhile, has played just one game since Oct. 10, and it has not been great when they have taken the field. They are 0-3 on the season, including a loss to an FCS opponent in Jacksonville State. Ideally they want to run the ball, but so far the offense has failed to generate much output. I don’t see anything changing considering the talent of Florida Atlantic’s defense, so expect points to be at a premium tonight.
With a total of just 40.5 points, it is never ideal to lay nearly double digits on the road. But given the situation with Florida International on both sides of the ball, I am willing to do it. Florida Atlantic has talent on offense but hasn’t put it together, while their defense has to be considered one of the better units in the country. I expect them to hold FIU’s offense down, and if they are able to generate any explosive plays, this one could get out of hand late.
