DraftKings and FanDuel NHL Showdown/Single Game Plays of the Day, Friday 5/18

The Jets will look to bounce back in an enormous Game-4 in Vegas as they look to avoid a 3-1 deficit heading back to Winnipeg. This series has been great to watch, and it’s always fun to have a chance to make money while doing so. Here are some of the stacks/players were looking at for tonight’s Game-4 slate.

Scoring

The scoring system on FanDuel will essentially be the same outside of no goalie, but you will want (what you think will be) your top scorer to be in your “Captain” spot where you’ll get all of his scoring times 1.5. On DraftKings, Goals (8) and Shots on Goal (2) are weighted more than they are in the traditional scoring, but the face-off bonus (0.2) is a little bit of a game-changer, making centers and guys who take face-offs a little bit more valuable. Winning goalies will (in general) also score very well, which is similar to traditional scoring.

Stack

WPG1: Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler ($29,900 DK/$31,200 FD)

The Jets’ top line was almost able to bring their team back in Game-3 as they produced the only 2 goals for Winnipeg. If this game is close, they should get over 20 minutes of ice time again, including the majority of power-play time. The Vegas top line will likely be higher-owned on this slate because they were at home, but WPG1 got the best of them at even-strength, so give me the lower-owned line tonight.

Skaters

James Neal ($8,200 DK/$10,000 FD)

Neal picked up his first points of the season in Game-3 as the 2nd line for Vegas had themselves a solid game, outshooting and out-chancing their opponents at even-strength. He’s been someone I’ve targeted the entire playoffs, but he couldn’t get going in the 2 games in Winnipeg. Being at home again tonight, Neal and his linemates will take on the high-paced Jets’ 2nd line which allows a lot of chances to their opponents. Neal has a great chance to lead the Golden Knights in even-strength shot attempts and Scoring Chances tonight as he did in Game-3.

Brandon Tanev ($4,800 DK/$7,100 FD)

If Nikolaj Ehlers is forced to miss another game, Tanev will slot back into the 2nd line in Game-4 with Patrik Laine and Paul Stastny, which will certainly boost his value. In Game-3, Tanev had 5 shot attempts, and we could be looking at a similar number tonight as he’ll also get 2nd power-play unit duties if there is no Ehlers. He’s way too cheap on DK for playing on the top-6 and makes for a great one-off if you’re going with expensive players elsewhere.

Nate Schmidt ($5,400 DK/$7,800 FD)

Schmidt continues to play some very good hockey at the time when the Golden Knights need him the most. In Game-3, he lead the team in ice time and fired off 6 more shots, bringing his total to 19 this series which leads all VGK defensemen. Expect another 22-24 minutes of ice time as well as power-play time on the 2nd unit, which means he correlates to James Neal, making those 2 one of my favorite mini-stacks of the night.
