DraftKings and FanDuel NHL Showdown/Single Game Plays of the Day, Tuesday 5/15

Game-3 tonight in the Eastern Conference as the Lightning will travel to Washington to face the Capitals. The Caps have dominated the first 2 games of the series at even-strength, making people like myself (who thought TB would crush at even-strength) and now they get to dictate matchups on home ice. This should be another great night of hockey. Below you’ll find a stack and some skaters that I (Tommienation1) will be targeting tonight in GPPs.

Scoring

The scoring system on FanDuel will essentially be the same outside of no goalie, but you will want (what you think will be) your top scorer to be in your “Captain” spot where you’ll get all of his scoring times 1.5. On DraftKings, Goals (8) and Shots on Goal (2) are weighted more than they are in the traditional scoring, but the faceoff bonus (0.2) is a little bit of a game-changer, making centers and guys who take face-offs a little bit more valuable. Winning goalies will (in general) also score very well, which is similar to traditional scoring.

Stack

WSH2: Vrana-Eller-Oshie ($20,600 DK/$24,800 FD)

This line has been playing possessed in this series, outshooting their Lightning opponents 28-16 and out-chancing them 17-5 (6-0 High-Danger Chances) at even-strength in the first 2 games. It looks like Nicklas Backstrom will be out once again, so this line will be in tact for Game-3, and they’ll be a main target for me on this showdown slate as they’ll likely get less ownership than the top Caps line and they’ll have an up-tempo matchup against the Lightning top line assuming they’re in the shutdown role on home ice.

Skaters

Alex Ovechkin ($12,300 DK/$11,900 FD)

Ovechkin is the obvious top skate tonight at home, as he’ll be firing away at both even-strength and the power-play per usual. We should see another 7-10 shot attempts from him as well as a handful of scoring chances, as he’ll get a matchup against Tampa Bay’s 2nd and 3rd lines at 5v5. If you have the salary for him, it’s hard to avoid paying up with the kind of upside that he has game-to-game.

Brayden Point ($10,000 DK/$10,300 FD)

Point’s line has been the best one for the Lightning so far this series, and they’ll get favorable matchups on the road for their offensive outlook. Point is leading or tied for the lead on his team this series in shot attempts, Scoring Chances, and High-Danger Chances. He should get a bunch of face-offs here as well to give him a chance to rack up bonus points on DraftKings. Point also gets top power-play time with Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos, so he’s in an overall great situation.

John Carlson ($9,400 DK/$9,800 FD)

Carlson has gotten on the scoresheet 3 times this series with assists, but I’m more encouraged by his shot volume and time on ice. He should see 23-25 minutes of ice time including top power-play time with some of the players listed above. His 96 shot attempts in the Capitals 14 playoff games is only behind Ovechkin for the team lead and he will not be facing TB1 at even-strength as that task will be assigned to the Niskanen/Orlov pairing.
