NBA DFS Picks
Joel Embiid
Embiid will face off against the Detroit Pistons tonight and the 76ers will be playing without Ben Simmons or Al Horford. Embiid averaged 1.58 DraftKings points per minute last season and that number climbed up to 1.67 points per minute without either Simmons or Jimmy Butler on the floor. He had 37.5 percent usage in 524 minutes without either of Simmons or Butler alongside him. We shouldn’t expect huge minutes out of Embiid, most likely in the 22-minute range, but he is likely to be one of the best per-minute performers on the slate and there is plenty of value available tonight with many key players sitting.
Andre Drummond
Drummond will be on the other side of the court from Embiid. While dealing with Embiid is not an ideal matchup for Drummond, the Pistons will be without Blake Griffin tonight which should increase Drummond’s productivity. He averaged 1.29 DraftKings points per minute with a 22.2 percent usage percentage and 25.0 rebounding percentage alongside Griffin last season compared to 1.46 points per minute with a 26.2 percent usage percentage and 27.9 percent rebounding when Griffin wasn’t on the floor. Drummond played 23 minutes in his most recent game and, barring any news, I would expect similar run for him tonight against the 76ers.
Domantas Sabonis
Sabonis and the Pacers have been playing huge minutes this preseason, which is obviously extremely valuable since most teams limit their good players to 22-24 minutes a night. Sabonis played 31 minutes in his most recent outing and he will face the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight at a relatively inexpensive price tag. Sabonis is a productive fantasy player when he gets the minutes as he contributes in all categories. He averaged 1.23 DraftKings points per minute last season with a 23.6 percent usage percentage, 18.0 percent assist percentage and 21.2 percent rebounding percentage.
Update: Sabonis is only expected to play the first half so his value takes a big hit.
Carsen Edwards
Edwards has impressed the Celtics by providing solid minutes when given the opportunity this preseason. He played 18 minutes and attempted 12 field goals with Kemba Walker sidelined on Friday and the Celtics will be without most of their main rotation players, including Walker, tonight against the Cavaliers. Walker, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Enes Kanter, Marcus Smart, Gordon Hayward and Daniel Theis are all sitting out of tonight’s game. That means there is tons of value on Boston. Edwards stands out as my favorite because it makes sense for the Celtics to want to see more of what they have in their rookie as he competes for the back-up point guard spot.
They are only playing pacer starters in the first half, so Sabonis might not be viable.
