The following Spotlight Hitters were selected by Awesemo.com’s Director of Content Josh Engleman. Please check back later for notes/additional picks from Awesemo himself.
Ian Happ
FD: $3500
DK: $4300
With the second highest implied total on the slate (at the time of this writing), the Cubs make for a nice place to start when looking for a hitter. Ian Happ is projected to lead-off today in their match-up against Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals. Happ has a .268 ISO in his career vs. righties, which is highly appealing. Happ can set the table and eat the dinner at the same time.
Editor’s note: Today’s Cubs game has since been postponed.
Carlos Santana
FD: $3700
DK: $4200
For his career, there hasn’t been a ton of difference in Santana’s performance vs. lefties or righties, except for one key stat. Santana sports a career .213 ISo vs. righties, compared to .162 vs. lefties. That extra pop is key here against Julio Teheran, who struggles with the long ball. The implied total isn’t the best, but Santana’s combination of price and spot in the order is hard to ignore.
Steve Pearce
FD: $2700
DK: $3100
This one is tasty. Pearce has smashed lefties in his career (.262/.345/.497). He’s batting lead-off for the team with the highest implied total of the night. Eric Skoglund doesn’t really have the stuff to keep this line-up in check, which makes Pearce one of the best values of the entire night.
Editor’s note: Today’s Blue Jays game is postponed. A great outfield option among the remaining players is Matt Joyce at 3100 DK, 2900 FD.
Awesemo’s Notes
I like Steve Pearce as the top option tonight on both sites. Pearce is priced way too low for batting 1st on the team with the highest run total. I have Santana as a good play but with Votto, Smoak, and Freeman at 1st you can’t really go wrong tonight. One additional batter I will have a lot tonight is Rhys Hoskins. Although his value ranking isn’t strong on either site (C on DK and FD), I have him as the highest projected batter tonight which is valuable on a night where you need players to soak up remaining salary.
