There are some interesting options on this 10-game slate with some cheap options that allow you to pay up for the big bats tonight. The following Spotlight Pitchers are selected by myself (Tommienation1), but if you’re looking for analysis for each game tonight, check out the MLB Strategy Video from this morning. Awesemo will update this article with his thoughts later today, so be sure to check back before lock!
Charlie Morton ($10,500 DK/$9,200 FD)
Morton has the best strikeout stuff on the slate this season and he’s going to need it to navigate this tough Yankee lineup that has a ton of power. He’s got one of the best curveballs in the entire MLB, as it is getting the most Whiffs/Swing so far of any curveball (54.9%) and I’m willing to bet on the talent even in a tough matchup. This is also one of the best prices we’ve seen on DK for him on the year and as we know, the Yankees have a ton of power, but they also have a bunch of guys that will strikeout against righties.
Eduardo Rodriguez ($7,600 DK/$7,400 FD)
Rodriguez keeps putting up the below-the-surface numbers we love to see, including a 14.3% Swinging-Strike rate, moving into the top-30 in Whiffs/Swing% in the MLB. He’s been virtually unhittable against lefties and should get at least 3 of them in this Royals’ lineup. E-Rod has been solid against righties as well, allowing 27.4% hard-contact, and the strikeouts should come against them, as his changeup ranks 5th in Whiffs/Swing% (46.8%) amongst all starting pitchers. He’s underpriced on DK once again, so I’m looking to take another shot on him in all formats tonight.
Dan Straily ($6,300 DK/$5,800 FD)
Straily will make his first start of the season tonight at home against the Phillies, who have been one of the worst teams in the MLB against right-handed pitching. Philadelphia has the 2nd-highest K% against righties and the 7th-lowest ISO against them and Straily showed last year he is capable of missing bats, posting a 12.2% Swinging-Strike% and almost 30% Whiffs/Swing. He’s going to be very low-owned, but assuming he’s healthy and can go 90-95 pitches today, Straily has some upside on DK and makes for a solid tournament pivot from some other guys in his price range (Faria, Lynn).
