The following Spotlight Pitchers were selected by Awesemo.com writer Jake Hari. For more analysis on the slate, check out the MLB Strategy Video and Night Shift Podcast.
Carlos Carrasco ($10,700 DK/$9,700 FD)
Carrasco’s immense upside in this matchup is undeniable and he’s arguably underpriced on a slate where there are a lot of viable value pitchers. His ownership should be through the roof, but he makes for the scariest fade on the board as the White Sox have been striking out almost 25% of the time against right-handed pitching over the last month, while Carrasco has a knack for slate-winning performances. Coming off an excellent start against Milwaukee and posting a fantastic Swinging-Strike rate and Whiffs/Swing rate, Carrasco has double-digit strikeout potential against this White Sox lineup that is littered with guys that K at 30%+ rates on the year.
Sam Gaviglio ($7,300 DK/$6,300 FD)
Gaviglio has impressed in his last four starts, going at least 6 innings in 3 of them while racking up a at least 4Ks in all of them. A righty-heavy lineup for the Rays should play to Gaviglio’s strengths, as he’s shown he can get whiffs with his slider, posting a 40.8% Whiffs/Swing rate on that pitch so far this year. His 34.3% O-Swing% sets up well in this matchup, too, since the Rays are top-5 in O-Swing% over the last month. A talented pitcher in a big ballpark against a team that chases a lot of pitches for only $7,300 on DraftKings is someone I’ll always look to get exposure to, and Gaviglio is no exception tonight as I believe he could very well reach 20+ DK points.
Jack Flaherty ($8,300 DK/$7,700 FD)
Flaherty has one of the best matchups of the night, and Vegas is backing him as the Padres only have a 3.7 run total in a game with 90 degree weather. Flaherty’s 31.4% K-rate and 2.88 xFIP against RHH should get you excited to play him against the Padres, who will likely roll out 5 righties including the pitcher slot in the order. His slider has been tough on right-handed bat as evidenced by their 23% whiff% against it this season in 127 pitches. He’ll be a popular option in GPPs, but there’s no getting around the great matchup and impressive arsenal that he’s shown in his short major league career.
