DraftKings and FanDuel Spotlight Pitchers of the Day 4/27

Jake Hari

There is an abundance of pitching options tonight on this huge 14-game slate. Here are some of the guys I (Tommienation1) am looking at for GPPs tonight and the reasons why I like them. If you’re looking for analysis on each game, check out the MLB Strategy Video from this morning. Awesemo will update this article with his thoughts on pitching later, so make sure to check back before lock!

Jacob deGrom ($12,400 DK/$10,600 FD)

deGrom is my favorite pitcher on the board tonight and there are enough cheap bats where he’s relatively affordable in all formats. He should see a bunch of Padres righties that have strikeout rates over 25% against right-handed pitching including Jose Pirela, Wil Myers, Christian Villanueva, and Austin Hedges. The Padres as a team have the 2nd-highest Swinging-Strike% on the year and deGrom is coming off two great starts in which he went at least 7 innings with 10 strikeouts in both. Add in the fact that this is a great pitchers park in San Diego and deGrom has the highest upside on the slate in my opinion.

Zack Godley ($8,600 DK/$9,100 FD)

Godley is a DK GPP-only play for me tonight on a huge slate, but at minuscule ownership, I have a little bit of interest in him. This Nationals lineup is not one I love to target against, but Godley’s curveball has been one of the best in the league this year as it’s getting 46% Whiffs/Swing and outside of Bryce Harper, I’m not super concerned with the rest of the order. Zimmerman, Kendrick, Adams, Kendrick, Taylor and Wieters are all near or above a 20% K-rate against righties this season, so Godley may have a little bit more strikeout upside than the Nationals team stats indicate. For $8,600, I think you’re getting a discount on a really good pitcher, so I like taking a shot on him in tournaments tonight at very low ownership.

Tyler Anderson ($7,700 DK/$6,500 FD)

Anderson is going up against a Marlins team that, despite their peskiness against some of the top pitchers in the MLB, grades out as a nice matchup for most pitchers. The Marlins rank in the middle of the pack in Swinging-Strike% and O-Swing% on the year and Anderson is trending in the right direction in terms of his swings and misses. Over his last three starts, he has Swinging-Strike rates of 18.2%, 18.1%, and 13.5% and he is in the top-25 in Whiffs/Swing% amongst all starting pitchers on the year. Against a bad team in a pitcher’s park, give me some Tyler Anderson at a mid-tier price.
