The following Spotlight Pitchers were selected by Awesemo.com writer Jake Hari. For more analysis on the slate, check out the MLB Strategy Video and Night Shift Podcast.
Blake Snell ($10,900 DK/$9,200 FD)
The most talented pitcher on the main slate gets a tough matchup against the Yankees in Yankee stadium, but he’s got the stuff to overcome it tonight. Snell has been one of the most consistent pitchers in the MLB at getting swings and misses in his 14 starts, 12 of which he’s posted a Swinging-Strike rate of 10.7% or higher while allowing 2 or fewer earned runs in all but 3 of those outings. The Yankees have the power to give him problems, but they’re also striking out over 23% of the time against lefties, and over the last month, they own the highest Swinging-Strike rate are are top-10 in O-Swing%. There is certainly some risk here, but the Yankees bats will surely carry decent ownership in GPPs, so Snell makes for a high-upside leverage play in tournaments.
Domingo German ($6,700 DK/$7,000 FD)
German will likely be the highest-owned pitcher on the slate, as he’s got a handful of things working for him tonight. First of all, he’s flashed big strikeout upside, posting a 26.1% K-rate and a 14.1% Swinging-Strike rate on the year. He’s also cheap and at home as a favorite with the opposing team total under 4, and there just aren’t many other options on the slate with only 8 pitchers going tonight. The Rays have been solid against righties for the season, but there aren’t many even average major leaguers currently in their lineup. At $6,700, it’s hard to even make a case for the ownership fade, since German doesn’t really need to have a great outing to be worth that price tag.
