FantasyDraft DFS MLB picks like Gerrit Cole for September 24 MLB DFS based on projections and ownership from the number 1 DFS player.

The following Spotlight Pitchers were selected by Awesemo.com writer Jake Hari. For more analysis on the slate, check out the MLB Strategy Video and Night Shift Podcast.

Gerrit Cole ($12,900 DK/$11,800 FD)

Cole has the highest ceiling of the night in my opinion as he is at home against the Giants who are mostly an above-average matchup for right-handed pitchers. He has at least 11 strikeouts in over half of his starts in 2018 with a 16% Swinging-Strike rate and a top-5 Whiffs/Swing rate in all of the MLB. Cole has shown he can dominant in pretty much any matchup, but this one shouldn’t be particularly tough for him to rack up strikeouts, as the Giants have the 5th-highest K% in the MLB against right-handed pitching. Cole is a great mix of safety and upside, making him a rock solid SP1 if you can find some cheap stacks you like.

Caleb Smith ($6,400 DK/$7,200 FD)

Smith will be up against a New York Mets team that ranks amongst the worst in the league against lefties in multiple different metrics, such as OBP, K%, ISO, and wRC+. The matchup could not be better him, and the price is very affordable on DK at only $6,400. The lefties in the Mets lineup shouldn’t be a huge issue for Smith, plus he is striking out righties at a 33.1% clip on the year with a 1.17 WHIP. He’s one of my favorite pitchers on the night and he’s half the price of Chris Sale and Gerrit Cole on DK, making him an excellent value on a night where the bats will be crucial.

Lance Lynn ($4,500 DK/$5,800 FD)

A -157 home favorite against a team with a 4 run total at $4,500 is usually going to get our attention, and Lynn is no exception tonight. He’s not some great pitcher as we’ve seen lately, but his last couple starts were nothing to scoff at (@Angels, vs. Cardinals) and he had been a getting a lot of whiffs and chances prior to those starts. Lynn’s biggest weakness is lefty power and the Tigers don’t have much of it, plus they rank in the top-4 in First-Pitch Strike%, Swing%, and O-Swing% over the last 2 weeks. If Lynn can get ahead of some of these Tigers hitters, he has the stuff to set them down and more than pay off his price tag on DK.
