ATL (vs. CIN)

The Braves get a date with Tyler Mahle tonight in Atlanta, and we could see some fireworks out of their bats, especially their lefties when they face Mahle. On the year, he’s allowing a 48% hard-hit rate, a 5.09 xFIP, 23.8% line drive rate, and a .403 wOBA. Mahle will get four lefties (Inciarte, Albies, Freeman, Markakis) to start off the game that all make for solid plays, but even guys like Kurt Suzuki and Johan Camargo have showcased the ability to get on base against RHP as well as hit for power, making them valuable add-ons in a full stack.

HOU (vs. TOR)

J.A. Happ has had a very impressive first half of 2018, but any time you can get an underowned Astros stack against a lefty, it’s hard to pass up. While being elite against lefties this year (30.3% K-rate, 0.69 WHIP, 60.0% Ground Ball rate), Happ is much friendlier to righties, allowing 43% fly balls with 32.1% hard-contact. Add in the fact that the Astros have been raking against lefties over the last month (19.2% K-rate, .179 ISO, 134 wRC+) and that they have some phenomenal hitters at the top of their lineup, and they make for a great stack (even better if the roof stays open) against Happ and the Blue Jays’ below average bullpen.

The Padres will have the pleasure of playing in the best hitting environment of the slate in Texas in a matchup with Cole Hamels. Hamels continues to go deep in games and miss bats, but San Diego’s lefty mashers should be on your radar tonight, as he’s allowing 47.6% hard-contact, but only a .233 BABIP. He’s no gas can, but Villanuva, Renfroe, and Myers have all shown they can crush lefties, so I’ll be targeting them as well as Margot and Pirela in hopes that some of Hamels’ hard-hit balls find the gaps, or better yet, the outfield bleachers.
