Quarterback

  • Jared Goff at $5,900 on DraftKings and $7,600 on FanDuel against the Saints pass defence is shocking to say the least. The Saints were the third worst team in the NFL last year against opposing QBs and three of their cornerbacks (Lattimore, Apple, Williams) ranked in the bottom-15 in the NFL in yards per snap allowed.
  • Derek Carr stands out at $5,100 on DraftKings and $6,600 on FanDuel with a home matchup against the Chiefs. He’s going to have to throw the ball to keep them in it. In 2018, Week 13 against the Chiefs produced one of Carr’s best games of the season with a 285-3 line. His pass-catching options are cheap as well (see below).

Running Backs

Mid-Priced Options

  • Sony Michel is coming of a near goose-egg against the Steelers last night with just 15 carries and 14 yards. That should lower his ownership heading into a Week 2 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. With the Patriots as 16.5 point home favorites, the game script favors Belichick force-feeding Michel. We could see one of those weird Patriots days where their game plan changes entirely based on the opponent. With his lack of a pass catching role in this offence, he’s a boom-or-bust TD reliant GPP option only.

Cheap Options

  • Because Josh Jacobs hasn’t played, his price point is still at just $4,700 on DraftKings, with a matchup against the Chiefs 32nd ranked 2018 run DVOA. With a negative game-script in the cards, DFSers might be scared off, but if we see three-down usage out of Jacobs tonight, he’ll be a bargain next week.
  • When the Week 1 DraftKings pricing came out, Darrius Guice was reasonably priced at $4,400 – but that was when we assumed Washington would opt for a three-man time-share. For some reason, even after it was announced that he’d be the starter, he’s price as gone down to $3,900 on DraftKings.
  • Tevin Coleman is doubtful next week for the 49ers against the Bengals. Matt Breida is a fantastic option on both sites, at $5,200 on DraftKings and $5,600 on FanDuel, where he’s the same price as Raheem Mostert. Knowing the 49ers, this will end up as a time-share between the two backs (60-40 split), but it’s still a plus matchup. Brieda led the 49ers with 15 carries in Week 1 against the Buccaneers.
  • Dion Lewis makes for nice punt up against the Colts, who allowed a league high 140 targets to RBs last season, and were dominated by the Chargers 1-2 punch last week. Lewis is $4,000 on DraftKings and $5,200 on FanDuel.

Wide Receivers

  • If you roster Jared Goff, you’re going to want to stack him with two of the three Rams pass-catchers. They’re all priced within $500 of each other on both sites. Best to MME and try out some different combinations, and of course, bring back the stack with at least one Saint. A cursory look at last year’s small sample size says Cooper Kupp with either Robert Woods or Brandin Cooks is your best bet for correlation purposes, but that’s mainly just guesswork.
  • Both Tre’Quan Smith and Tedd Ginn Jr are cheap on both sites, playing in what should be a shootout game between the Saints and the Rams. Fire them up in game-stacks at low-ownership. The Rams allowed the third most plays of 20 yards or more in 2018 and both of thes guys are capable of breaking one.
  • Will Fuller is sure to be low-owned next week with a matchup against the Jaguars elite perimeter corners, but he’s also cheap and capable of getting behind any defence for a big score. You won’t need much to get over the field.
  • If Mike Williams can’t go for the Chargers, Travis Benjamin is a solid deep-flier with high upside who’s near the bare min, but should see an uptick in targets. He usually puts together 1-2 big games a year. With Tyrell Williams gone too, that number could go up this season as the secondary option in this WR corps.

Tight Ends

  • Travis Kelce is as close to lock as it gets at the TE position next week. The Raiders finished dead last in the NFL in TE DVOA last season and 28th in fantasy points allowed. Kelce’s line in two games against the Raiders last season: 17-230-2. The Chiefs will be without WR Tyreek Hill, which should mean an even larger target volume than usual.
  • If you’re looking to get contrarian in GPPs, pair Kelce up with Darren Waller of the Raiders (depending on MNF action), in a game stack. He’s near the bare-min on both sites and will be one of the main benefactors of Antonio Brown’s departure.

We’ll be back throughout the week with much more analysis!
