Sorry the column is a little late today, but for whatever reason, the news breaks late on Saturdays in the NHL.

The BIG news

  • Patrice Bergeron is OUT tonight after exiting last night’s game against the Stars.
  • Sidney Crosby is out for Saturday. Derick Brassard, centering a solid PIT2 between Jake Guentzel and Phil Kessel.
  • Lots of GTDs in the SJ/STL game. Tomas Hertl is expected to be out, Alex Steen didn’t play last night and likely won’t got tonight and Jaden Schwartz is doubtful for STL1.
  • Craig Smith takes over on NSH1 from Kevin Fiala. Fiala moves down to NSH2 to skate with Turris and FIala.
  • Mats Zuccarello is out tonight for the Rangers. Expect Namestnikov to slide up to NYR1. Strome makes his rangers debut with Hayes and Vesey.

Advice

  • If Bergeron can’t go, I’d expect David Krejci to move up to BOS1, making for a unique, low-owned stack that’ll actually be affordable. Check the line rushes.
  • With the Blues banged up and on the second end of back-to-backs, the Sharks are in a smash spot here. I also like using the Blues as a late switch to salvage any dead lineups, should these players end up giving it a go.
  • Love me some NSH1 tonight. All three are on the PP1, with Mattias Ekholm. That’s a cheap four-man stack with the highest implied total on the slate.

The little news

  • Jeff Petry returns to MTL PP1 after a few ineffective Mike Reilly games. Doesn’t look like he’s suiting up tonight.
  • Nick Foligno is out tonight – no lines yet, check the rushes.
  • Elias Lindholm is a go tonight for the Flames – he takes his usual spot on CGY1.
  • Ryan Spooner makes his Oilers debut with Nugent-Hopkins and Ty Rattie.
  • No word on a line yet, but newly acquired Ryan Strome is expected to suit up for the Rangers.
  • Colin White is expected to dress tonight for the Senators. Keep an eye on that closer to.
  • Jacob Chychrun will miss another game for the Coyotes.

Advice

  • Petry is viable for the Habs – and he likely won’t be owned tonight due to his price.
  • This is a great night to keep an eye on all the pre-game line rushes to get an edge on the competition. I suspect we’ll see a lot more tinkering than usual in the leadup to locks.

I've been obsessed with fantasy sports since as long as I can remember. Back in 1993, while seated in the last row of Mr. MacMillan's math class, I'm fairly certain a few buddies of mine and I invented daily fantasy sports -- popping down our fivers and using nothing more than a newspaper box score, we'd make our NHL player picks for the night's action. Twenty years later I started out playing DFS on DraftStreet, when three-max tourneys with 490 people were a big deal, and I've been hooked ever since. More than anything, I'm interested in using my technical writing skills to articulate and clarify our content in order to help you become a better fantasy sports players player. Armed with Awesemo's grades and the projections from our experts, we're here to help you take the next step. You can contact me by emailing [email protected].
