It has been a while, but best-of-three series are back, as is the current strongest region in the world. The LPL is the king of competition, with upsets and many strong teams, and tonight is the start of the summer season. I’m breaking down both series, as well as some of their LoL DFS implications.
Invictus Gaming (IG) vs. Suning (SN)
FunPlus Phoenix (FPX) vs. Rogue Warriors (RW)

LoL DFS Picks and LPL Slate Breakdown
Thankfully the opener to the LPL season is an intriguing one, as IG and SN are two teams that appear to be scratching at the door of the top teams. On paper IG is immensely talented, with all the tools to beat anybody in the league, albeit with the addition of neny to the starting lineup tonight, a bit less tested, as he has an immensely difficult opening assignment. This may or may not be a permanent switch, as TheShy has a ton of talent still, but he has a shot to demonstrate his capabilities tonight. Rookie is my favorite LoL DFS option from IG tonight, as he’ll need to provide some stability and upside with the lane matchup.
After coming in second at Worlds 2020, SN entered spring split with lofty ambitions despite losing a key cog in SwordArt. Fast forward to summer, and SN enters this split with moderate, if not more achievable expectations from the community, while still retaining the upside of competing against the top teams. I’m not sure why exactly they’re as big of favorites as they are, but they should be small favorites due to the volatility of IG, making them more than viable LoL DFS options, with huanfeng sitting at the top for me.

FPX fans get a presumptive freebie to shake off the rust to open the LPL Summer split, as to put it bluntly, RW isn’t up to their level. Top to bottom FPX shines, and their growth will be one of the many interesting storylines as one of the top contenders in the LPL. On the LoL DFS front, Nuguri faces off against a brand new top laner in the LPL, which makes him my favorite TOP laner on the slate.
Not to be too curt, but this really is a sizable mismatch. Something to note if you have an interest in playing underdogs, is that most of the upsets in spring happened early in the split. RW really doesn’t have too big of an issue talent wise, but their play style is too unfocused, which sees them pretty consistently on the wrong side of the scoresheet. Playing RW in LoL DFS might be chasing fool’s gold, but if they do win, they’ll be necessary, and icecoKe in his debut will likely be influential in that instance.
MID – Doinb. Without a doubt the most click and play team on the slate, FPX offers up a variety of more than serviceable options. Doinb is my favorite selection from FPX, and unless something wild happens, he should be at worst a solid LoL DFS option.
Favorite Contrarian Play
ADC – Wink. It’s very easy to see how the ADC position is the least attractive on IG, especially as huanfeng is an exceptionally difficult test. Hopefully this keeps ownership down, allowing me to get over the field on the IG ADC in a spot where they have a solid shot to win.
