With HLE getting the more difficult best of five against BYG tonight, there is always a little worry that they will revert to summer split form and make this more difficult than it needs to be. HLE are definite favorites tonight, and the plus side for LoL DFS purposes, and if they are less popular than C9 tonight due to their opponent being perceived as more difficult, it is possible that the best player on the slate in Chovy gets slightly overlooked.
After pulling off a reverse sweep of GS, in which they threw games one and two, BYG enters this do or die best of five with a shot at pulling off the upset. As a series, there’s potential for this to go the distance, although BYG are still correctly labelled underdogs. Once again this series likely comes down to a few players’ individual performances, with Doggo getting a huge test against the battle tested Deft this series, but if he comes out on top, BYG suddenly has outs to pull off the upset.
Unfortunately for C9 their tiebreaker loss to DFM sees them in the worst position possible, as not only did they not top the group, but since HLE are likely to win their series, winning here puts C9 into the most unenviable group. Luckily, C9 wants to advance, and should do so with relative ease here, as they are a notch above PCE in every role, with Fudge being a standout TOP lane option on the LoL DFS slate.
After a tense five game series that was back and forth, the reward for PCE is a series against an inconsistent C9 squad. Their chances for success are not extremely high, but PCE showed flashes of high-level play throughout the play-in stage, and if they can take advantage of some of C9’s faults, there’s a chance they make a game or two competitive. Violet and Aladoric are capable laners, and facing off against the often least aggressive part of C9 in Zven and Vulcan could bode well if PCE are to be competitive.
JNG – Blaber. Playing in the presumed more one-sided series elevates Blabers’ upside for LoL DFS tonight, especially as C9 averages nearly 17 kills per contest this play-in stage.
Favorite Contrarian Pick
TOP – Liang. LoL DFS players probably wish they could avoid the top lane position in this series altogether, and while that is viable with Fudge on the slate, sprinkling in Liang against Morgan could be quietly sneaky.
