Tonight’s series offer three pretty newly built teams and xiaohu in the top lane for RNG. I’m breaking down some early season games while offering up some of the LoL DFS plays I find to be exciting.
Bilibili Gaming (BLG) vs. eStar (ES)
TT (TT) vs. RNG (RNG)
LPL Starting Lineups:
BLG appears to be a much stronger team entering 2021. Gone is the Meteor/FoFo drama, and now Meteor has a promising young mid laner to hopefully mesh with. That’s not the only good news from the offseason as every position is an upgrade over their summer roster which went 6-10. This is a squad that should challenge for playoffs, and opening against another ES lineup with new players should give us a decent feel to what this team can become. Aiming was basically KT last year, and with Mark at support, I really like his prospects not only in this series, but for the season for LoL DFS.
2021 sees the ES organization bring in quite a few new players once again. They’re looking to capture the spring split magic from 2020 which most outlets had them as the worst team entering the split, before they surprisingly made the playoffs. The line might be a little high in BLG’s favor since both rosters have a ton of new players, however ES functionally serves as the overall less talented team. ShiauC wasn’t as exciting in summer, however he was a large reason for their success in spring 2020, and he’s capable of creating success with a roster that does have some talent.
One of the biggest question marks entering 2021 is TT, which was formerly Dominus Esports. TT has an eclectic, and large amount of players on their roster, with xiaopeng and SamD being the most exciting pieces on the overall roster. Enigma is the best way to describe TT, as their Demacia Cup performance was atrocious, however they were without SamD, and potentially multiple other players that could be involved in this split. My hopes for TT are low with this roster, however SamD is capable of maneuvering around late game team fights.
Predictions for RNG this split are all over the place, but most view them as a fringe playoff squad. What’s the deal with xiaohu/Cryin, will GALA be played around more after a solid end of summer? Wei is an exciting addition to the squad, and xiaobai, while not a strict upgrade as a top laner, does have synergy with Wei from their ES days, although RNG seems to want to fit a square peg in a round hole by starting xiaohu in the top lane this series. RNG needs to 2-0 here to temporarily quiet the doomsayers, as anything else could halt progress from a team that does have a fair amount of talent throughout. Gala seems to be getting there as an ADC, and if RNG plays around him, he should be an exciting LoL DFS option this series.
Favorite LoL DFS plays on the slate:
JNG-Wei. Wei is super solid, and a matchup against TT seems like just the medicine for him to kickoff his RNG tenure, even if xiaohu might anchor the top lane.
JNG-Meteor. Finally free from drama, Meteor was an extremely promising talent in 2019, and hopefully he regains some of that form here.
Favorite contrarian LoL DFS play on the slate:
ADC-rat. ES might be getting slept on a little bit, however it’s difficult to trust them immediately, nonetheless rat is someone LoL DFS players should keep their eyes on here.
