DraftKings

Skaters and Goalies – October 9

Looks like an overlay shaping up in the DraftKings, 20k forecheck, so go get those lineups in.

The Plays

Forward

Patrick Laine: Points Grade: A, DraftKings value: C, FanDuel Value: C

Looking at the chart data from last year’s two matchups between the Kings and Jets in Winnipeg, it’s clear that Paul Maurice opted to run his top-line against the Kings first-line, centered by two-time Selke award winner Anze Kopitar. Obviously, that doesn’t rule out the Jets top-line – they’re a fantastic option tonight as well, but that does give Laine and the Jets second line a better match-up. Mixing and matching in Laine with the Jets top-line and Buffy (all on PP1), opting for a Jets second-line stack or just going solo Laine (44 goals, only 26 assists last season) are all viable options.

Defence

Brent Burns: Points Grade: A, Draftkings Value: A, FanDuel Value: A

While most GPPs are going to opt to stack up on some high priced lines top-lines tonight, putting Burns in will force you to differentiate and opt for some lower owned combos. The number one fantasy defenceman in the NHL last season is off to a slow start this year, and that should lower his ownership even further. Burns has the second highest projected point total of any player in Jake Hari’s model. Burns will QB the PP1 against the 29th ranked PK in the NHL last year.

Cheap option

Brendan Leipsic: Grade: C, DraftKings Value: A, FanDuel Value: B

At $2800 on DraftKings and $3500 on FanDuel, Leipsic makes for a nice dart throw. He’s expected to skate on the Canucks’ top-line tonight with Brock Boeser and Bo Horvat, in what should be a high-event hockey game. Acquired at the deadline last year from Vegas, Leipsic impressed in limited action, with a 3-6-9 line in 14 games last year, skating in the Canucks bottom-six.

Goalies

If you’re playing it safer, I’d roll out Connor Hellebuyck (A,A,A), who has 53 wins in his last 86 home games and a .917 save percentage. He’s the highest graded goalie in both Awesemo and Jake Hari’s ranks and the Jets are the biggest favorites on the slate.

Contrarian GPP Goalie

Jakob Markstrom. Points Grade: E, DraftKings value: C, FanDuel value: B

With the Hurricanes at home as -200 favorites over the Vancouver Canucks, you’re going to get Markstrom at 2-3% ownership in large GPPs. The Hurricanes are averaging 40 shots per game this year, after averaging 34 shots per game during the 2017-18 season – so Markstrom is going to get some Shots Against points tonight. Pair him with sniper Brock Boeser (B,C,C) or the cheap Canucks top-line and you’ve got a nice low-owned, high-upside combination, that will surely differentiate your GPP lineups.

I've been obsessed with fantasy sports since as long as I can remember. Back in 1993, while seated in the last row of Mr. MacMillan's math class, I'm fairly certain a few buddies of mine and I invented daily fantasy sports -- popping down our fivers and using nothing more than a newspaper box score, we'd make our NHL player picks for the night's action. Twenty years later I started out playing DFS on DraftStreet, when three-max tourneys with 490 people were a big deal, and I've been hooked ever since. More than anything, I'm interested in using my technical writing skills to articulate and clarify our content in order to help you become a better fantasy sports players player. Armed with Awesemo's grades and the projections from our experts, we're here to help you take the next step. You can contact me by emailing [email protected].
