Finding a sleeper in fantasy football is one of the quickest ways to boost a team to the playoffs. Last year players like Justin Jefferson, Diontae Johnson and James Robinson greatly outperformed their average draft position (ADP). Here are a few more player who could fit that mold in 2021 fantasy football drafts.
2021 Fantasy Football MUST-DRAFT Sleepers
Wayne Gallman — RB — ATL
Gallman signed with the Falcons a few days ago. Gallman stepped in for the Giants when Saquon Barkley was injured, and he carried 147 times for 682 yards. His role in Atlanta will be to backup Mike Davis, and Qadree Ollison was cut to make room for Gallman. While Davis will be the lead back, there is still potential for Gallman to outperform Davis and become the lead back in Atlanta.
Sterling Shepard — WR — NYG
While Daniel Jones is far from a perfect quarterback, Shepard is in a solid situation to perform. Darius Slayton appears to be taking a backseat to Shepard this year. Kenny Golladay is still the clear No. 1 option, but the chances of the Giants being bad are very high, so the offense should be passing at a high rate late in games.
Jameis Winston — QB — NO
Winston is one of the most interesting quarterbacks in the NFL. Despite many clamoring for Taysom Hill to be the starter, Sean Payton named Winston the starter. The Saints will be missing Michael Thomas for at least the first few games of the season, but Winston does not need excellent pieces to succeed. In 2019 with the Buccaneers Winston lost both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin to injury. Despite that, he was still able to be a productive fantasy quarterback down the stretch of the season, as what is good in fantasy football is not always what is good in the NFL. Even while throwing 30 interceptions that season, he was a top-five fantasy quarterback. Things may get messy, but Winston is certainly worth the late-round draft selection and has the upside of a top-12 quarterback.
Bryan Edwards — WR — LV
The Raiders releasing John Brown secured Edwards’ position within the offense, and Las Vegas’ receiving room is not exactly brimming with talent. The receiving corps is made up of Henry Ruggs, Zay Jones, Hunter Renfrow and Willie Snead, so the lead target of the wide receiver corps is up in the air. With Ruggs struggling in his rookie year, there is a solid shot that Edwards could be Derek Carr’s No. 1 target, and late-round leading receivers always have massive value in double-digit rounds of fantasy drafts.
Michael Carter — RB — NYJ
All the reports coming out of Jets camp have been bad for Carter. New York will use a running back committee this year, and this caused a plummet in Carter’s ADP. However, there is still a solid chance of Carter elevating above the other Jets backs. With Tevin Coleman and Ty Johnson ahead of him on the depth chart, it should not be long before Carter solidifies himself as the starting back in New York.
