As 2021 fantasy football drafts approach, much praise was sung for Rams running back Cam Akers. However, thoughts of a potential top-five breakout season have been put to rest by today’s news of a torn Achilles suffered during a workout. Cam Akers Injury Fantasy Football Impact
According to Tom Pelissero, Akers has suffered a season-ending torn Achilles injury while working out before training camp. Without Akers, the Rams are left to Darrell Henderson Jr., Xavier Jones, Raymond Calais and Otis Anderson. Only Henderson were even drafted within the top six rounds of the NFL Draft.
Henderson will most likely be the lead back. Since entering the league in 2019 he has never really been given the opportunity to be a workhorse back. In 2019 he was stuck behind Todd Gurley, and in 2020 he quickly lost his job to Akers. Though even with Akers taking over in Los Angeles, Henderson still put up over 600 yards rushing and five touchdowns, adding 16 receptions for 155 yards and one touchdown.
While there is not much special about either of his seasons, having an opportunity is key in fantasy football, and opportunity Henderson will have this season. As long as there are no changes to this roster and they do not look to add Le’Veon Bell or bring back Gurley, Henderson projects for a solid top-24 finish.
