Fantasy Football Deep Sleepers 2021: Top 3 Running Backs

Damien Williams, Chicago Bears

Awesemo Rank: 139

Average Draft Position: 195.7

Following his 2020 opt-out due to COVID, now suits up in Chicago as a change-of-pace to David Montgomery. Awesemo’s Fantasy Football Sleepers Tool gives Williams a ranking of 139 against an ADP of 195.7. The 2021 outlook for Williams is cloudy given his supporting role, so he projects for 2.1 fantasy points per game assuming Montgomery and Tarik Cohen are healthy. He is being drafted in the vicinity of other backups like Ty Johnson and Devontae Booker, and he becomes a near-necessary handcuff for Montgomery drafters late in drafts.

Tony Jones Jr., New Orleans Saints

Awesemo Rank: 117

Average Draft Position: 500

The Saints drafted Tony Jones Jr. as the third string to Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray, though he profiles as a more agile version of Murray.  Despite the crowded backfield, Awesemo’s Fantasy Football Sleepers Tool places Jones a whopping 75 spots ahead of his ADP. Kamara ids the clear top running back in New Orleans, but he has also had his share of injuries, which have opened the doors for Saints backups in recent years. This bodes well for Jones’ 2021 outlook, projecting for 6.36 fantasy points per game. That said, Jones is going in the final rounds of drafts, in the same range as depth backs like Ito Smith and Xavier Jones.

Darrel Williams, Kansas City Chiefs

Awesemo Rank: 135

Average Draft Position: 199.3

The Kansas City backfield is a carousel of talent led by Clyde Edwards Helaire, yet Andy Reid has been known to feed several running backs. Enter Darrel Williams, ranked by Awesemo’s Fantasy Football Sleepers Tool 57 spots ahead of his ADP. He projects for 5.52 fantasy points per game this year, and though his projected value places him in the range of Rounds 11 and 12, this draft season he is being taken more in the vicinity as forgotten backs like Mark Ingram II and Benny Snell Jr.
