Week 12 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Quarterbacks: Cam Newton & Kirk Cousins

Nick Lepri

The top Fantasy Football Start 'Em Sit 'Em guide for NFL Week 12 going over the best and worst quarterback matchups and rankings | Kirk Cousins

By dissecting each matchup for Week 12, we can see how it will positively and negatively impact each quarterback. Keeping tabs on the fantasy football rankings is crucial to know where players are rising and falling throughout the week at any given position. Here are the Week 12 quarterbacks to start and sit.

Week 12 Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: Quarterbacks

Must Start: Kirk Cousins — Vikings at 49ers

Cousins has been a reliable starting option this season, as the Vikings have looked solid. While they will inevitably choke away a couple of games, Cousins still performs in those games. Last week against the Packers he had 24 completions on 35 attempts for 341 yards and three touchdowns. This week Vegas gives Minnesota’s game a 48-point total, so it should be higher scoring. With how hot this offense has looked recently, Cousins has top-five upside.

Must Start: Cam Newton — Panthers at Dolphins

Since arriving back in Carolina, Newton has been solid. In his first full game of the year last week he had 21 completions on 27 attempts for 189 yards and two touchdowns and 10 carries for 46 yards and a touchdown. Even with the Dolphins defense looking much stronger recently, Newton’s rushing upside makes him a must-start with top-five upside.

Must Start: Tyrod Taylor — Texans vs. Jets

Prior to getting injured in Week 2 against the Browns, Taylor was in the position to be one of the most undervalued quarterbacks in fantasy drafts. Recently he returned from injury against the Dolphins and struggled. Last week against the Titans he had 14 completions on 24 attempts for zero touchdowns, but he rushed six times for 28 yards and two touchdowns. While many will not look towards Taylor this week because of the poor quality of the teams playing, he has an excellent matchup against the Jets, who are last in pass DVOA.

Must Sit: Derek Carr — Raiders at Cowboys

Every year everyone gets collectively bamboozled by the Raiders. They start the season strong and inevitably fall off as the year goes on. Last week against the Bengals Carr had 19 completions on 27 attempts for 215 yards, a touchdown and an interception. This week against the Cowboys, who looked strong against the Chiefs, Carr is too risky of a play.

Must Sit: Ryan Tannehill — Titans at Patriots

Tannehill has looked much better recently compared to the beginning of the season, but last week he had 35 completions on 52 attempts for one touchdown and four interceptions. While things cannot possibly look as bad as last week, facing the Patriots will be a tough task. Playing Tannehill this week is an immense risk, and there are much better options elsewhere on the waiver wire.
