Looking towards Week 13 of the NFL fantasy football season, we will look into the matchups to discern the positive or negative impact a given matchup will have on tight ends. Below are the Week 13 start ’em sit ’em tight ends based on their matchups.
Week 13 Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: Tight Ends
Must Start: Logan Thomas — Washington at Raiders
Thomas made his triumphant return from injury last week against the Seahawks on Monday Night Football with three receptions on six targets for 31 yards. While on paper that is far from an ideal performance, he did score a touchdown that was ruled not a touchdown despite clearly being a touchdown. This week he will face the Raiders who just won a very high-scoring, back-and-forth game against the Cowboys, and this game is likely to have a similar game script.
Must Start: Rob Gronkowski — Buccaneers at Falcons
When healthy Gronkowski should be as a top-end option weekly. Last week he faced the Colts and had seven receptions on nine targets for 123 yards. Gronkowski is currently on a four-game drought of scoring a touchdown, and this is a good week to break out of the slump since the Falcons rank 29th in pass DVOA.
Must Start: Foster Moreau — Raiders vs. Washington
It appears Darren Waller will not play this week, as he has been absent from practice. The last time Moreau had to step in for an injury from Waller was in Week 7 against the Eagles, and he had six receptions on six targets for 60 yards and a touchdown. His game against the Washington could be a very high-scoring game, which would lead to a pass-heavy game script.
Must Sit: Evan Engram — Giants at Dolphins
Engram has been a big disappointment this season. His usage is fine, but the biggest issue is that his yards per target is just 5.8, which is a career low. Last week against the Eagles he had three receptions on six targets for 37 yards. The upside just is not there, especially with Daniel Jones out and Mike Glennon starting.
Must Sit: Hunter Henry — Patriots at Bills
Henry has been a reliable starter for the majority of the season, but this week he should be left on the bench against the Bills. That is due to a tough defensive matchup and a potentially low-scoring game due to a run-heavy game script for both teams. Henry relies strictly on touchdowns for his fantasy production, and if he does not score, he is virtually irrelevant. He is on a touchdown drought over the last two games, so look elsewhere this week.
