Week 4 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: Top Tight End Plays | Logan Thomas & Mike Gesicki

Looking towards Week 4 of the NFL fantasy football season, we will look into the matchups to discern the positive or negative impact a given matchup will have on a tight end. Below is the Week 4 start ’em sit ’em tight ends based on their matchups.

Week 4 Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: Tight Ends

Must-Start: Mike Gesicki — MIA (vs. Indianapolis Colts)

Gesicki was awful through the first two weeks of the season, but in Week 3 against the Raiders, it appeared that Gesicki’s usage would be maximized. In that game, he saw 12 targets and recorded 10 receptions for 86 receiving yards. It is clear that he is one of Jacoby Brissett’s favorite targets as he was the second-highest targeted player on the team last week. The Colts’ defense has not looked the best all season and with a revenge game imminent for Brissett, Gesicki should have a great showing.

Must-Start: Dawson Knox — BUF (vs. Houston Texans)

Knox is currently the TE7 on the season in half-PPR (tied with Logan Thomas) and prior to the huge game from C.J. Uzomah, he was the TE6. Despite seeing very little usage last season Knox appears to be a focal point of the Bills’ red zone attack. Last week against the Washington Football Team he caught four of his five targets 49 yards, as well as a touchdown. With him being involved heavily with Bills offense, this is the perfect matchup against the Texans for success.

Must-Start: Logan Thomas — WAS (at Atlanta Falcons)

Thomas has had a steady season despite the quarterback change in Washington. Thomas is currently the TE7 in half-PPR (tied with Knox) and continues to show that he is not a one-year wonder. Last week against the Buffalo Bills, he had four receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown. Even with Curtis Samuel returning this week we should still be confident with Thomas. The Falcons defense has been bad against the tight end, allowing 15 receptions for 174 yards and a touchdown on the season.

Must-Sit: Cole Kmet — CHI (vs. Detroit Lions)

Kmet started the season off hot with a five-reception game against the Rams, but after that everything has been downhill having just one reception in each of the last two games. Jimmy Graham is still on the team, but he is just a name on the roster at this point. With that said, it is hard to understand the Kmet’s role. Match that with how bad this offense is and the uncertainty at the quarterback position, it is best to stay clear away from Kmet this week.

Must-Sit: Jonnu Smith — NE (vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

The tight end situation in New England is quite murky. On the season, Hunter Henry has 13 targets for 10 receptions and 109 yards, Jonnu Smith has seen 16 targets for 10 receptions and 74 yards. With that said Henry has seemed to be the lead tight end as of late, but with this matchup against the Buccaneers’ defense, avoiding any Patriots’ pass-catchers not named Jakobi Meyers seems ideal.

Must-Sit: Maxx Williams — ARI (at Los Angeles Rams)

After those who have struggled with the tight end position all year picked up Williams, everything went downhill. Last week against the Jaguars, he had three receptions for just 19 yards. It seems like the dreams of Williams becoming a weekly start for your fantasy teams are down the drain. The issue is not that Williams is not talented but more of the issue of having so many talented pass-catchers on the team. To name a few, they have DeAndre Hopkins, Rondale Moore, Christian Kirk and A.J. Green all competing for targets. This is just not an ideal situation to be in with this much competition.
