Week 6 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Quarterbacks: Joe Burrow and Sam Darnold

By dissecting each matchup for Week 6, we can see how it will positively and negatively impact each quarterback. Keeping tabs on the fantasy football rankings is crucial to know where players are rising and falling throughout the week at any given position. Here is the Week 6 quarterbacks start ’em sit ’em.

Week 6 Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: Quarterbacks

Joe Burrow — Cincinnati Bengals (at Detroit Lions)

While Burrow got hurt against the Packers, he made a miraculous return and played well after returning. In that game he had 26 completions on 38 attempts for 281 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. After the game he was sent to the hospital due to a throat contusion, but he was released the same night. This week he faces a bad Lions defense that ranks 27th in pass DVOA. With a healthy Joe Mixon and all of their three main wide receivers out there, a top-five finish is in the cards for Burrow.

Must Start: Taylor Heinicke — Washington Football Team (vs. Kansas City Chiefs)

Heinicke is coming off his worst game of the season, he had 20 completions on 41 attempts for 248 yards and two interceptions and 40 yards on five carries. This week he faces a Chiefs defense that is laughably bad, ranking 31st in pass DVOA. This should be a high-scoring game, as Washington’s defense is also far from exceptional against the pass, ranking 29th in pass DVOA. Heinicke has top-12 potential this week.

Must Start: Sam Darnold — Carolina Panthers (vs. Minnesota Vikings)

Like Heinicke, Darnold had his worst game of the season last week, going 21-for-37 with one touchdown and three interceptions. That game was his only one this season without at least two touchdowns and 275 yards passing. This week he gets the Vikings, who have been in some slow games recently, but this one should be higher scoring.

Must Sit: Ryan Tannehill — Tennessee Titans (vs. Buffalo Bills)

Tannehill has been a huge disappointment in the fantasy realm, rankings 21st when some him to be a top-12 quarterback. He is not fully to blame because of the injuries to A.J. Brown and Julio Jones, but things have not looked great for Tannehill when they are all active. This week he faces the Bills, who locked down Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense last week. They also rank first in pass DVOA. While it would not be surprising if Derrick Henry has a big game, leaving Tannehill on the bench is ideal.

Must Sit: Justin Fields — Chicago Bears (vs. Green Bay Packers)

As Fields gets more reps as the Bears starter, he continues to look better. The issue with Fields is the team is not committed to throwing the ball much no matter who the play caller is. As a starter he has yet to throw more than 20 times, and last week he completed 12 of 20 for just 111 yards and a touchdown. Plus, he has not offered as much rushing upside as expected, averaging just 8.3 yards the last three games. The lack of passing attempts per game matched with the lack of rushing makes Fields nearly impossible to start. Maybe as the season goes on and the team gets more comfortable with him he will be more fantasy relevant, but until then he is best left on the bench.
