Week 8 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Tight Ends: Mike Gesicki & Hunter Henry

Looking towards Week 8 of the NFL fantasy football season, we will look into the matchups to discern the positive or negative impact a given matchup will have on tight ends. Below is the Week 8 start ’em sit ’em tight ends based on their matchups.

Week 8 Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: Tight Ends

Must Start: C.J. Uzomah — Cincinnati Bengals at New York Jets

Uzomah has been one of the most interesting tight ends to follow this season. In seven games, he only has 19 targets but has turned those into 17 receptions for 256 yards and five touchdowns. At this point in the season, he is sitting as the TE10 in half-PPR. He has had multiple two-touchdown games on the season and has scored three touchdowns in his last two games. Last week against the Ravens, he had three catches for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Continue to ride the hot streak against a soft Jets defense.

Must Start: Hunter Henry — New England Patriots at Los Angeles Chargers

Just like with Uzomah, touchdowns are vital for Hunter Henry’s success. He has four touchdowns on the season, one in each of the last four games. Last week against the Jets he had two receptions on four targets for 23 yards and a touchdown. While there is always risk in hunting for touchdowns in the NFL, Henry is on a nice streak so keep firing him up.

Must Start: Mike Gesicki — Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills

Whether it has been Tua Tagovailoa or Jacoby Brissett, Mike Gesicki has been playing at a high caliber. Last week against the Falcons, he had seven receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown. This week against the Bills may be scary on paper. But at the end of the day, the Bills will be likely leading the whole game causing the Dolphins to have to pass more. With Gesicki being one of the most-targeted players on the team, expect another solid showing out of him.

Must Sit: Ross Dwelley – San Fransico 49ers at Chicago Bears

When George Kittle is in the game, the tight end appears to be a focal point for the 49ers offense, that is not the case with Ross Dwelley as the starting tight end. In three games since Kittle went down with an injury, Dwelley has five total targets for four receptions and 51 yards with a touchdown. That might be a decent stat line in a single-game situation, but not for three games combined. While going against the Bears may be enticing, the role he possesses in this offense is not. Let Dwelley ride the bench.

Must Sit: Cole Kmet – Chicago Bears vs. San Fransico 49ers

Kmet’s targets have started to increase as of recently but going against the 49ers is still a scary task. The 49ers defense allows is bottom-10 in points allowed to tight ends in 2021. Last week against the Buccaneers he had five catches for 43 yards. With the tough matchup, we also have to account for the fact that the Bears offense is awful. Until the Bears start so show any promise sit Kmet down.
