Week 9 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Wide Receivers: Michael Pittman Jr. & DeVante Parker

Looking towards Week 9 of the NFL fantasy football season, we will examine all of the matchups and discern the positive or negative impact that a given matchup will have on the wide receivers. Below is the best fantasy football start ’em/sit ’em options for Week 9 NFL matchups.

Week 9 Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: Wide Receivers

Must Start: DeVante Parker — Dolphins vs. Texans

While the Dolphins have been far from a good team, the offense in terms of fantasy has been successful. Parker is one of the key pieces in the offense when healthy. Last week he saw 11 targets for eight receptions and 85 yards, and this week they get to play a Texans defense that can make even the worst offense look good. Parker should be in for a heavy workload and has touchdown upside.

Must Start: Emmanuel Sanders — Bills at Jaguars

Sanders was a huge disappointment last week in an excellent matchup against the Dolphins. In that game he had four targets that resulted in zero receptions. Many will panic because of the down game, but he was still involved in the game plan. Going against the Jaguars this week should jumpstart a bounce back.

Must Start: Michael Pittman Jr. — Colts vs. Jets

Pittman has now entered the must-start category weekly. He is the clear No. 1 wide receiver on the team, and with T.Y. Hilton ruled out, the confidence in Pittman should be even higher. Last week against the Titans he had 10 receptions on 15 targets for 86 yards and two touchdowns. This week he gets another soft matchup against the Jets, with the Jets in a huge letdown spot following an unexpected win against the Bengals.

Must Sit: Christian Kirk — Cardinals at 49ers

Kirk has been an interesting start weekly due to being Kyler Murray‘s No. 2 target. While Kliff Kingsbury is trying to deploy smoke screens with Murray’s status for Sunday, there is a chance he will not Sunday. With the potential of Murray missing and Colt McCoy taking snaps, taking the risk on Kirk is not worth it.

Must Sit: DeVonta Smith — Eagles vs. Chargers

Despite being the clear No. 1 wide receiver on the Eagles, Smith has struggled to find any consistency. Over his last three games he has failed to eclipse 10 half-PPR points. Last week the Eagles went for a run-heavy attack, utilizing Boston Scott and Jordan Howard against the Lions, which led to a downtick in targets for Smith. He saw just three targets for one reception and 15 yards. If they continue to run the ball it, will be hard to start Smith going forward.

Must Sit: Randall Cobb — Packers at Chiefs

Cobb is in a similar situation to Christian Kirk. The Packers will be without Aaron Rodgers, and this makes Cobb’s upside significantly lower. With Jordan Love under center, all of the main pieces of the team, like Aaron Jones and Davante Adams, should be fine. But the uncertainty around the ancillary options will be even tougher to decipher without Rodgers. Even though Cobb had two touchdowns against the Cardinals last week, he is better left on the bench until Rodgers returns.
