If streaming defense/special teams (D/ST), the options are slim pickings for Week 9. Several teams with bad offenses will be facing a D/ST that is rostered in most fantasy leagues. With that in mind, if desperate for options, here are three to at least consider adding that are still available in most leagues. Also, check out the Awesemo projections and fantasy football projections to see the best Week 9 streaming defenses and D/ST rankings to guide add/drops this week.
Week 9 Fantasy Football Streaming D/ST Rankings
Miami Dolphins (82% available)
It has been all downhill for the Dolphins after a Week 1 win over the Patriots. They have lost seven straight games, several of which were not particularly close. If there is a silver lining, it’s that Tua Tagovailoa is finally healthy. Their defense has not helped matters, though, allowing an average of 29.1 points per game.
As bad as they have been, Miami is arguably the top D/ST streaming option for Week 9 because they have a matchup against the Texans. The Texans have been downright dreadful, averaging a league-worst 14.9 points per game. There is a chance that Tyrod Taylor (hamstring) will be activated to make this start, but he does not exactly have a plethora of options around him. If he does not start, the Dolphins defense could feast against Davis Mills, who has two touchdown passes and three interceptions over the last three games.
Dallas Cowboys (51% available)
With Dak Prescott (calf) out, the Cowboys needed their defense to step up Sunday night against the Vikings. They did just that, limiting Kirk Cousins to 184 yards passing on route to just 16 points. The normally dangerous Justin Jefferson finished with only two catches for 21 yards. The fact that their pass defense held up so well was a bit of a surprise given that they have allowed the fifth-most yards passing per game in the league.
The Cowboys will try to build on their strong performance in Week 9 when they face the Broncos, who are averaging just 19.6 points per game. Even with Jerry Jeudy back in Week 8 against Washington, they could only muster up 17 points against a Washington defense that has allowed the third-most yards passing per game. With that performance, they have scored 19 points or fewer in four of their last five games.
Chicago Bears (73% available)
The wheels are starting to come off for the Bears, who have lost three straight to drop their record to 3-5. They did not exactly have an easy schedule, though, with those games coming against the Packers, Buccaneers and 49ers. Their offense was not great, but their defense was not good either, allowing an average of 31.7 points per game during that stretch.
Before the Bears’ schedule took a turn for their worse, they had allowed 17 points or fewer in three of their previous four games. A more favorable matchup might await them this week when they take on the Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger is a shell of his former self, which has contributed to them averaging only 18.9 points per game. He has thrown more than one touchdown pass in a game only one time this season, and he has been sacked 14 times across seven games.
