Top 3 Week 2 Defense Rankings & Streaming Options | Fantasy Football 2021

Week 1 was filled with upsets, punctuated by a wild Monday Night Football game between the Raiders and Ravens. Turning to Week 2, let’s go over some of the top defenses that are rating out well in the NFL fantasy football rankings. Based on the rankings and projections, these are some of the top Week 2 streaming defense options that are still available in the majority of ESPN fantasy football leagues.

Week 2 Fantasy Football Defense Streaming Options

New Orleans Saints (70% available)

The Saints defense was locked in during Week 1, allowing just 229 yards while holding the Packers to only 3 points. They picked off Aaron Rodgers two times, which is noteworthy since he only had five interceptions all last season. The Packers were forced to mostly abandon the run early because they were down big, leaving them to produce 43 yards rushing across their 15 carries. If there was a downside to the game for the Saints, it is that cornerback Marshon Lattimore suffered a thumb injury that required surgery. He is considered week-to-week moving forward.

The Saints will try to build on their strong performance during their matchup against the Panthers, who only scored 19 points in Week 1 against the rebuilding Jets. Their offense is more dangerous with Christian McCaffrey healthy, but Sam Darnold is not exactly the deadliest quarterback in the league. The Awesemo projections have the Saints D/ST scoring 7.96 fantasy points, which is the third most at the position.

Green Bay Packers (74% available)

The Packers offense was not their only unit that struggled Sunday. The Saints torched them for 38 points, which included five touchdown passes from Jameis Winston. Winston did not throw an interception either, which has been a troublesome area for him throughout his career. The Saints helped control the game on the ground, rushing 39 times for 171 yards.

As far as a matchup to help them bounce back, it does not get much better than facing the rebuilding Lions. The Lions racked up 430 yards of total offense against the 49ers, but much of that came late when they were trying to come back from a massive deficit. Jared Goff was picked off once and sacked three times, which put somewhat of a damper on their overall performance. With an Awesemo projection of 8.02 fantasy points, the Packers could very well help out fantasy managers in a big way.

Arizona Cardinals (94% available)

Considering their opponent, the Cardinals defense could not have looked much better than they did last week. Facing a loaded Titans offense that added Julio Jones in the offseason, they only allowed 13 points on their way to a blowout victory. They sacked Ryan Tannehill six times, including five by Chandler Jones. Jones has thrived at getting to the quarterback throughout his career, recording at least 11 sacks in every season in which he has played a least 15 games.

Jones and the rest of the Cardinals defense will look to put pressure on Kirk Cousins, who was sacked three times by the Bengals in Week 1. The Vikings allowed 39 sacks last season, which was tied for the 12th most in the league, so it would not be a surprise to see the Cardinals have a big week again on that front. The Awesemo projections have the Cardinals D/ST projected to score 6.33 fantasy points, which is significant for a D/ST that is this widely available.
