Fantasy Football Rankings: Awesemo’s Top 3 QBs For 2020 Based of Playoff Strength of Schedule

A lot can happen over the course of an NFL season. Injuries can significantly alter teams and some players can make unexpected leaps in production. Still, taking a look ahead at the schedule can give you a significant edge in your fantasy football league. At Awesemo, we’ve developed a strength of schedule tool that provides projections throughout the season, including the fantasy playoffs in Weeks 15 and 16. Let’s take a look at the top three quarterbacks with the highest-projected increases in fantasy points per game for that all-important stretch based on half point per reception scoring in Awesemo’s fantasy football rankings.

Fantasy Football Rankings: Strength of Schedule Playoff Targets

Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders

Carr set a new career high last season with a 70.4% completion rate. He also eclipsed 4,000 passing yards for the second straight season. The problem was that he only threw 21 touchdown passes despite playing in all 16 games. That’s been an area of difficulty for him considering he hasn’t thrown for more than 22 scores in each of the last three seasons.

The Raiders did add some weapons this offseason, drafting promising young wide receivers Henry Ruggs and Bryan Edwards. Still, Carr is only projected to average 14.89 fantasy points per game for the season overall. While you don’t want to draft him to be your starting quarterback, he could be a viable backup or someone to target in best ball leagues considering his favorable playoff schedule against the Chargers and the Dolphins. The Dolphins allowed a league-high 30.9 points per game, so that matchup is one of the main reasons why Carr is projected to average 15.92 fantasy points per game in the playoffs, which is an increase of 6.88% compared to his projected per game average for the season.

Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

Jackson is already our top projected quarterback at an average of 24.24 fantasy points per game. He earned that top spot with a spectacular 2019 campaign, especially on the ground where he racked up 1,206 yards and seven touchdowns. He wasn’t required to throw the ball a ton, but he made his pass attempts count, throwing for 36 touchdowns and only six interceptions.

What’s even more scary with Jackson is that last season was his first full one as a starter in the NFL. He could get even better with more experience, especially in the passing game. He’s set up nicely for the fantasy playoffs with matchups against the Jaguars and Giants, which leaves him with a projected 25.81 fantasy points per game across those two contests. That’s an increase of 6.49% compared to his projected fantasy points per game average for the season. Jackson might really be able to exploit the Giants through the air since their cornerbacks are basically a bunch of question marks outside of James Bradberry.

Deshaun Watson, Houston Texans

Watson runs into a similar problem as Carr considering he hasn’t thrown more than 26 touchdown passes in any season of his career. However, he helps offset that lack of production by providing contributions with his legs. He’s posted 964 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns across the last two seasons.

The key difference for Watson this season is that he will no longer have DeAndre Hopkins as his top pass-catching option. The Texans did add Brandin Cooks and Randall Cobb, but they aren’t in the same stratosphere as Hopkins. The good news for Watson is that his favorable schedule in the fantasy playoffs has him projected to average 19.61 fantasy points per contest, which is an increase of 5.02% compared to his projected overall average for the season. The Texans will face the Colts on the road in Week 15 and the Bengals at home in Week 16.
