Keenan Allen has consistently been among the league’s most reliable receiver targets, no matter who his quarterback has been. Keenan Allen’s Production in 2020

Allen’s 2020 season started off rocky. While he was targeted eight times, he caught just four for 37 yards against the Bengals. It appeared that with Tyrod Taylor under center the Chargers offense was going to be stagnant. But then Taylor’s freak injury allowed Herbert to take over, and he never looked back. From Week 2 on, Herbert and Allen were a match made in heaven. Allen finished the season with 147 targets (fifth among receivers) and 100 receptions (fifth) for 992 yards (16th) and eight touchdowns (13th).

Chargers Offseason Changes

One of the biggest changes for the Chargers this offseason was moving on from head coach Anthony Lynn. Brandon Staley replaced him, and he is a more defense-minded coach. The offensive mind for the Chargers is former Saints quarterbacks coach Joe Lombardi. In noncoaching news, the offensive line got a huge boost this offseason, adding center Corey Linsley in free agency and drafting Northwestern offensive tackle Rashawn Slater. Both have looked great in camp and should help protect the franchise quarterback.

Keenan Allen’s Outlook in 2020

With Herbert under center, the sky is the limit for Allen. He is in the running to be the target leader year in and year out, and that will not change in 2021. He also has some of the best hands in the NFL, so drops are never an issue. On top of that, Los Angeles’ offense looks to be even more high-powered with Austin Ekeler returning from injury. Allen is one of the safest receiver picks this season and has one of the highest ceilings to go with it.
