Fantasy Football Advice: Week 11 Start em Sit em

Quarterback: Start ‘Em

Cam Newton, NE (at HOU)

The Patriots battled the rain to pull off an upset win over the Ravens in Week 10. Newton was once again quiet through the air, finishing with only 118 passing yards. The good news was that he threw his first touchdown pass since Week 3 and recorded another rushing touchdown. This is a much easier matchup against a Texans team that is not only allowing an average of 28 points per game, but they have also allowed the most rushing yards per contest in the league, which plays right into Newton’s wheelhouse.

Quarterback: Sit ‘Em

Ryan Tannehill, TEN (at BAL)

The schedule has not been kind to Tannehill lately. In Week 9 the Bears held him to 158 yards and two touchdowns. Last week the Colts limited him to 147 yards and a touchdown. He hasn’t thrown for more than two touchdown passes in any of his last four games, and he has seven games this season with fewer than 250 passing yards. A matchup against the stingy Ravens defense doesn’t exactly bode well for him to turn things around considering they have allowed 12 touchdown passes all season.

Running Back: Start ‘Em

Kalen Ballage, LAC (vs. NYJ)

It appears that Austin Ekeler is closing in on a return, but rejoining the Chargers on the field in Week 12 seems to be his best-case-scenario right now. That should mean Ballage will once again lead their backfield in Week 11. Since taking over the leading role, he has 186 total yards and a touchdown over two games. It’s clear that Joshua Kelley will continue to have a limited role behind him, which could leave Ballage to feast against a Jets team that is tied for the seventh-most rushing touchdowns allowed (12).

Running Back: Sit ‘Em

Melvin Gordon, DEN (vs. MIA)

Gordon has already started to see his fantasy stock drop with Phillip Lindsay back in the fold for the Broncos. Over the last three games, Gordon has a combined 25 carries for 90 yards. He didn’t find his way into the end zone in any of those contests and hasn’t been overly involved in the passing game either, with three targets across his last two games. Things won’t get any easier for him against the Dolphins, who have a tough defense that has allowed an average of only 20.2 points per game.

Wide Receiver: Start Em

Jakobi Meyers, NE (at HOU)

Injuries at wide receiver have led to the emergence of Meyers, who has become the Patriots’ best wide receiver lately. He produced five receptions for 59 yards last week and he even threw a touchdown pass on a trick play. Volume has been paramount to his success. Across the last four games, he’s been able to record 27 receptions for 346 yards on 37 targets. With Julian Edelman (knee) still on IR, Meyers should remain busy against the struggling Texans’ defense.

Wide Receiver: Sit ‘Em

Tim Patrick, DEN (vs. MIA)

Patrick had back-to-back games with at least 100 receiving yards earlier this season, but he only has 134 yards total over his last three contests. Part of the reason for his limited yardage totals is that he has only posted more than four catches in a game only one time all season. With K.J. Hamler being more involved in the offense the last couple of weeks and Drew Lock battling a rib injury, it wouldn’t be wise to expect Patrick to be a viable fantasy option in this tough matchup.

Tight End: Start ‘Em

Logan Thomas, WAS (vs. CIN)

The Bengals have been a defense to target this season given that they have allowed an average of 27.8 points per game. Tight ends have given them trouble, which has resulted in them allowing the seventh-most receptions to the position this season. Washington’s offense is far from being electric, but Thomas did record 66 yards against the Lions last week and he has eight red zone targets already, which is one more than he had all of last season.

Tight End: Sit ‘Em

Jonnu Smith, TEN (at BAL)

The season started off so well for Smith. Across the first four games, he had 18 receptions on 27 targets for 221 yards and five touchdowns. However, the wheels have fallen off since then with him posting eight catches on 16 targets for 97 yards and a touchdown over five games. A lack of targets may continue to be a problem for him considering how much the Titans like to run the ball. Combine that with this unfavorable matchup and it might be best to stay away from Smith.
