Fantasy Football Advice: Week 14 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Picks

Quarterback: Start ‘Em

Ryan Tannehill, TEN (at JAC)

Tannehill and the Titans were in comeback mode last week after falling down big against the Browns, which helped Tannehill finish with a season-high 389 passing yards to go along with three touchdowns. The game script probably won’t be as friendly to him this week against an inferior foe, but the Jaguars are still a favorable opponent given that they have allowed the third-most touchdown passes in the league. When he faced them in Week 2, Tannehill recorded four touchdowns through the air.

Quarterback: Sit ‘Em

Jalen Hurts, PHI (vs. NO)

There is a buzz in Philadelphia this week with Hurts set to take over at quarterback for Carson Wentz. He came on in relief of Wentz last week against the Packers, finishing with 109 passing yards, one touchdown, an interception and 29 rushing yards. He’s an intriguing fantasy option based on his ability to contribute on the ground, but this is a rough matchup in his first career start. The Saints have allowed the fewest rushing yards (68) to opposing quarterbacks, which is even more impressive when you consider they are one of only two teams that has allowed fewer than 100 rushing yards to quarterbacks this season.

Running Back: Start ‘Em

D’Andre Swift, DET (vs. GB)

It looked like Swift was set to run away with the Lions’ starting running back job after rushing 16 times for 81 yards and catching five passes for 68 yards and a touchdown in Week 10 against Washington. However, a concussion sidelined him for the following two weeks. Then, an illness kept him out last week against the Bears. The good news is that he’s reportedly feeling better on both fronts, so expect him to finally make his return. This is a great matchup for him to exploit given that the Packers have allowed the third-most fantasy points to opposing running backs in PPR formats.

Running Back: Sit ‘Em

Devin Singletary, BUF (vs. PIT)

Singletary matched his season high with 18 carries last week against the 49ers, which he turned into 61 yards. He also caught three of four targets for 22 yards, marking the third time in the last four games that he has finished with at least three receptions. The problem is that he hasn’t scored a touchdown since Week 4, and that’s his only score of the season. The Steelers have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs this season in PPR formats, so this has the makings of a potentially rough week for Singletary.

Wide Receiver: Start ‘Em

Keke Coutee, HOU (at CHI)

Coutee’s first week filling in for Will Fuller (suspension) couldn’t have gone much better. Although he didn’t find his way into the end zone, he caught eight of nine targets for 141 yards. Randall Cobb (toe) will be out for at least one more week, which leaves Coutee and Brandin Cooks as the Texans’ top wide receiver duo for this matchup with the Bears, who have been pretty tough on wide receivers this season. However, given his increased target share, Coutee is still a viable WR2 or W3 option in most leagues.

Wide Receiver: Sit ‘Em

Henry Ruggs, LV (vs. IND)

A big play in the final seconds last week against the Jets helped Ruggs finish with 84 yards and a touchdown. He caught only three passes, though, which means he still hasn’t caught more than three passes in a game all season. He’s very much a boom-or-bust option, so taking a chance on him against a Colts team that has allowed the seventh-fewest fantasy points to opposing wide receivers in PPR scoring might not be a good idea.

Tight End: Start ‘Em

Dalton Schultz, DAL (at CIN)

Playing tight ends against the Bengals has generally been a sound strategy this season given that they have allowed 67 receptions, 822 yards and seven touchdowns to the position. Up next is Schultz, who doesn’t normally record a lot of receiving yards. However, opportunities could be there for him to shine in this matchup given that he has received 30 targets across the last five games, four of which have come inside the red zone.

Tight End: Sit ‘Em

Zach Ertz, PHI (vs. NO)

Ertz made his return to the field last week against the Packers after having missed five games with an ankle injury. The Eagles eased him back into action, putting him on the field for only 43.5% of their offense snaps. That contributed to him finishing with only two receptions for 31 yards. While he could play more this week, Dallas Goedert might be the best tight end on the team now, so Ertz may continue to see limited targets. It also might not help his cause that the Saints have allowed the seventh-fewest receiving yards to tight ends.
