cbunge [7:05 PM] @AWESEMO how do you make sure you have a decent amount of “non-optimizer” stacks / constructions to choose from when you generate a bunch of lineups in FC? Do you boost some players/teams projections that look like they have good ownership leverage to make sure you get them in your pool of lineups?

Two tricks to get more contrarian stacks: upping randomness and multiplying hitter projections. The ones you want are high projected stacks that cost a lot

when you think about your edge in dfs and where it lies, do you think it’s more in your projections being better than others or the way you apply them? I’m sure the answer is actually some of both but wonder if you think it’s one more than the other
AWESEMO [7:11 PM] Haha well my edge in projections is probably not that big since so many people have access to them
But I’m confident that I can put together the information in a smart way

AWESEMO [7:13 PM] 3 max and SE I just pick my top X ranked lineups based on my criteria
Yup I think basketball the edge is getting the smallest. The strategy is more simple compared to other sports due to the lack of correlations

Jatart [7:15 PM] @AWESEMO what are your thoughts on uniques/randomness for FC in Golf? Coming from NBA still getting used to a sport with a lot more variance.
AWESEMO [7:16 PM] I think uniques to 2 is good enough but if you’re entering 20 or fewer 3 could work. The randomness is more about fading high owned players because they fail a lot more than people give them credit for. I get excited every time I see a guy like Emiliano Grillo owned at like 30%

And I like to leverage off top stack

Jatart [7:27 PM] @AWESEMO For golf, is putting surface splits a metric you value and use in the model? I don’t really like to use it much, but for extreme outliers I like to consider it. If your model already accounts for it I don’t want to be dinging guys twice for the same thing.

AWESEMO [7:32 PM] I like Wrigley a bit better because there’s more stuff to do in the neighborhood. I don’t really root for either team though being from Michigan
I max out every GPP under 5k so whatever that equals haha

AWESEMO [7:33 PM] i’m more of a pistons fan. The reason I got into it though was more from the gaming element. Being a poker player I heard that the next big game in the US was fantasy sports

But I usually have more exposure to my top 50% than the other side

AWESEMO [7:41 PM] Well too many people can’t do it or else it doesn’t work. That’s why I’m a bit secretive about how I build my lineups and only give out the raw materials.

AWESEMO [7:45 PM] I’ve met Saahil before but I don’t know him well. Some pros I know better are Shawnzhan and Papagates in Chicago. And of course I enjoy seeing the whole gang at finals.
MiguelRa [7:45 PM] For the top stack tool if I wanted to use it for a smaller slate (turbo or night) could I take the % of being the top stack from each team on the slate and make them =100%? Or is it dependent on the teams on the slate
AWESEMO [7:46 PM] I’m not too sure, but being too chalky is a common pitfall in my opinion
We will have top stacks for the non-main slates soon. But I think that could work

AWESEMO [7:50 PM] 2 game slates aren’t that well understood in the industry but my general feeling is it pays to be more contrarian.

AWESEMO [7:58 PM] My favorite dfs sport is always the new one I’m playing. This year it’s Nascar. The strategy of place differential vs. domination is really interesting to predict. I think my baseball and basketball game is the strongest followed by NFL and WNBA!
Well I suppose the W is technically under the basketball umbrella but everyone knows it’s its own beast

AWESEMO [7:59 PM] One stat I look at is how often a guy is targeted when he runs a route. A lot of receivers run out there but don’t actually get the ball, so when there’s an injury they might not be that good
