KBO DFS: Spotlight Hitters for DraftKings + FanDuel | May 30

You just have to love baseball. Naturally, the low run total game on the night burst out for 14, giving some low-owned edge to owners who went with riskier KBO DFS picks. With another six runs from the Twins and five each from the Lions and Heroes, there was plenty of scoring to go around despite low-scoring nights from the chalky Dinos and Bears. Some of the more popular home run plays on the slate did come through for the public in general, driving up some scores as one-offs.

KBO DFS Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Hitters

Once again, we saw a dominant performance from an import starter, with Eric Jokisch striking out nine while twirling seven brilliant innings. Most of the starters projected to have strong performances were at least adequate, except for the starter for the Eagles, Min-woo Kim, who was brutalized for negative fantasy points on both sites.

Run totals are down slightly tonight compared to where they’ve been all week. Several of the games have high-end offenses facing quality starting pitchers, so it will be interesting to see which gives in first. The Dinos and Bears are going to be the chalky obvious options once again, but the stack success probabilities look more spread out today than we’re used to with KBO DFS. We’ve got a split slate with another 1am/4am setup. DraftKings is offering the early game as a single-game slate this time around, with a 4am lock on the rest of the slate, while FanDuel is locking a full slate early with late swap enabled.

The bulk of this analysis comes directly from reviewing Awesemo’s KBO DFS projections and the top stacks tool. Check out the rest of our KBO DFS picks content, Awesemo’s projections, rankings, and ownership on the site.

As usual, I’m going to look game by game, calling out a hitter or two from each team, and giving some top stacking options as we go. Pricing and popularity will be considered, more so as KBO DFS trends begin to emerge over the coming weeks. The numbers included with Suggested Stack are the projected lineup positions I would target for stacking that team, but do not restrict yourself exclusively to those spots. For example, if it says Wyverns 3-6 it means 3,4,5,6 in the projected lineup. If it says 1-2-3-5 it means those guys. If it means a two-man it will say so. I’m also going to start trying to include positions more, hopefully it helps speed up the process of finding guys as you build lineups.

With lock still hours away (1:00am/4:00am), official lineups have not been released, so be sure to double-check status before you plug players into your lineup.

Hitting Breakdown for DraftKings + FanDuel

LG Twins @ Kia Tigers – 9.0 run total (5.11/4.09) – Suggested Stack: Twins 1,3,4,5,6

This one moves up to the early game tonight, after last night saw the Twins beat up the Tigers’ bullpen for four late runs in a 6-2 victory. Some of the primary bats that KBO DFS players like to get to in the Twins lineup came through again last night and, as you may have just assumed coming in, Roberto Ramos ($17/$3.7k) hit another home run. Some of the individual ownership on players like Ramos and NC’s Sung-bum Na has gotten absurd with the pricing from site to site, but it is difficult to go in different directions when they’re this hot. Tigers starter Min-woo Lee has shown some strikeout aptitude and is off to a good start in his age 27 season, limiting contact and not allowing a home run yet. Ramos has the Twins’ highest projection on the night, with LG ranked in the middle of the stacks tool. They look slightly under-owned again, so spreading out to usual suspects like Eun-sung Chae ($11/$2.8k) and Y.T. Park ($11/$2.1k) as capable cogs in the machine makes a lot of sense here.

The Tigers come into this one as the home underdogs, but the match-up against Chang-gyu Lim isn’t as daunting as their implied team total seems to be making it out to be. Lim is of to a fair start in 2020 and has a sparkling K:BB ratio, but it’s his history with the long ball that has me concerned. This is a guy who also has a career WHIP over 1.50, there could be sneaky opportunity here. Despite that, the Tigers rank dead last in the top stacks tool and are getting largely ignored by the public. The obvious options here are once again Ji-wan Na ($9/$3.4k), Hyun-woo Choi ($11/$5.3k), and Preston Tucker ($17/$6.1k), who saw some uptick in salary on FanDuel. In the interest of a fresh name, adding Min-sang Yoo ($7/$3.6k) is a workable bolt-on if you’re taking the plunge on a long-shot.

Hanwha Eagles @ SK Wyverns – 9.5 run total (4.47/5.24) – Suggested Stack: Wyverns 2-5

So, the low run total resulted in an 8-6 Wyverns victory in a shootout of a game. Hopefully we hit on a low-owned Wyverns stack or someone out there with yesterday’s KBO DFS picks. The total bounces up by a full run tonight, with the Wyverns seeing most of the benefit. On the Eagles side, they draw Ricardo Pinto, who had a strong start against them earlier this year. Jared Hoying ($10/$5.0k) made today’s home runs pick for the Eagles. Hoying offers some power upside here, but he’s challenging in that he’s probably too expensive on DraftKings, where his ownership is reasonable, and he’s too cheap on FanDuel where his ownership is excessive. On both sites, getting to him with lower-owned inexpensive teammates. Kwang-min Song ($9/$4.5k) fits the bill on both sites, providing some home run upside hitting 2 spots behind Hoying.

I liked the Wyverns just enough last night based on what looked like a deceptive pitching match-up for odds-makers and they came through. Tonight, isn’t that type of case, with a more obviously bad pitcher on the hill for the Eagles. The Wyverns look primed to keep their newly found momentum going, and the top stacks tool agrees, with SK ranked higher than we’ve seen them recently. The issue on FanDuel is the 20% stack ownership. Finding the right angles on this one might be a key to unlocking a GPP win tonight. Everyone from last night is in play here again today, but people will be on them. Get to a broader stack that adds hitters like projected fifth hitter in the lineup, Jin-gi Jeong ($9/$3.7k) or Ji-hoon Choi ($5/$2.8k), who are not great but are drawing lower ownership than their lineup spots dictate.

KT Wiz @ Kiwoom Heroes – 10.0 run total (4.81/5.41) – Suggested Stack: Heroes 1,2,4,5,6

Another 10-run total for these two teams, but a bit tighter of a line, the odds-makers are looking at this one like it might have some fireworks. KBO DFS owners should take advantage and get to some of each of these offenses tonight. Both teams rank in the top half of Awesemo’s stacks tool and most league offensive categories so far this year. The Wiz are facing a quality starter in Won-tae Choi, now in his sixth KBO season at age 23. Choi doesn’t mow hitters down so there should be a lot of contact in this one. The Wiz have a big bat hitting fifth in the lineup in Jae-gyun Hwang ($12/$4.7k). Hwang is one of the better hitters in this lineup but his ownership on FanDuel is appealing at only around 12%. Yong-ho Jo ($8/$2.5k) isn’t tracking for much ownership on either site and he hits third in this capable lineup.

The Heroes are one of the better teams for KBO DFS owners on any given night. Last night wasn’t really one of those, despite a quality score, as two of the runs came from a pinch-hitter late in the game. The truth is, the Heroes had numerous opportunities to break this one open but didn’t come through in some key spots. Ranking third on both sites in the stacks tool and drawing reasonable ownership, the Heroes could pop for us here tonight. The top five hitters in the projected lineup all look strong in Awesemo’s point projections tonight. Leading off Keon-chang Seo ($11/$3.8k) can drive the ball and steal some bases. He’s a great start to Heroes stacks at under 10% ownership on FanDuel. Ji-young Lee ($6/$3.4k) is drawing around six percent ownership on DraftKings, where you’re required to roster a catcher, making him a strong option from an RBI spot in this lineup, despite his limitations.

Lotte Giants @ Doosan Bears – 11 run total (4.87/6.38) – Suggested Stack: Bears 1-5

Similar look from Vegas in this one again tonight, with an 11 run total and familiar lines. The Bears are a big favorite again and you probably won’t be surprised to hear that they rank in the top two stacks here once again. The Giants, on the other hand, might be tougher to roster here, but they aren’t in a bad spot. Ah-seop Son ($12/$3.6k) and Dae-ho Lee ($11/$4.3k) look like quality options on both sites. The prices are too low for both players and they actually aren’t drawing much ownership for the pedigree they bring. KBO DFS owners could do worse than building around these two tonight.

The powerful Bears lineup is facing a 19-year-old who they pounded for five runs in five innings in their first match-up of the season just a couple weeks ago. The kid has given up 4 home runs in 21 innings so far this year and is ripe to get mauled here. Soo-bin Jung ($7/$2.0k) didn’t do anything for us atop the lineup yesterday but if he’s there again at these prices and this ownership I won’t be timid about playing him. Hitting in front of bats like Jose Miguel Fernandez ($18/$6.0k), the opportunity will be there any night he manages to get on base. Fernandez is seeing suppressed ownership by virtue of being the most expensive hitter on both sites. He still projects well and the lower owned he is the more I like getting to him here, his multi-position eligibility on DraftKings is also a help, mixing and matching Bears across positions can help get to some interesting constructions.

NC Dinos @ Samsung Lions – 9.5 run total (5.78/3.96) – Suggested Stack: Dinos 3-4-5-6-8

The poor Dinos managed to put up four runs last night, getting a homer and most of their production from their most popular hitters and end up leaving KBO DFS owners frustrated. With heavy ownership and a low-for-them result, having the Dinos act as an anchor for lineups last night wasn’t what we’re used to. I’m guessing they get right back on track here tonight. Odds-makers and Awesemo’s top stacks tool agree, with the Dinos pulling down the second-highest implied total on the slate and ranked as the top stack on both sites. Aaron Altherr ($8/$5.7k) only went 1-4 last night, but he did drive in a run and has been heating up a bit. Getting him while he’s still relatively ow-owned and cheap on FanDuel makes a ton of sense, as does swallowing his cost on DraftKings as an even better ownership play could also be profitable. This is a guy that we know has the tools to dominate the KBO like we’ve seen other import players do. Building him into either the bottom end of your stacks or using him as a wrap-around could put some dollars in your bankroll while he tries to earn his way back to MLB. Myung-gi Lee ($9/$3.3k) offers price, ownership, and batting order opportunity and makes a quality brick in your Dinos construction here as well.

Who would win a fight between a lion and a dinosaur sounds like a question either a kid or a stoner would come up with, for one night at least that answer was surprisingly the Lions. Not exactly the kings of the KBO, it was a quality win for this team, coming back with five late runs to steal the game from NC starter Drew Rucinski. Tonight, they once again draw the highest owned and highest projected starter on the slate in the Dinos’ Mike Wright. Lack of attention and picking up some leverage are really the only reasons to consider the Lions in this one, with the logical move being to get to the heart of the order with Won-seok Lee ($8/$3.7k) and a couple of the hitters ahead of him. Tyler Saladino ($8/$3.9k) is playable in a pairing or small stack if he’s hitting fifth behind Lee again.

Favorite Stack: NC Dinos

HR Call: Keon-chang Seo (Heroes)
