Spotlight Hitters KBO DFS Picks on DraftKings + FanDuel | Friday June 26

What a chaotic night of KBO DFS. Our already broken slate was further damaged when the Kia vs. Lotte game was rained out shortly before lock. DraftKings owners had to scramble to pivot to the three remaining games on that slate, while FanDuel owners weighed the risk of playing the lone 5:30 A.M. game against the threat of rain with no late-swap options.

The games that played had some wild action in both the early and late block. Of the games that counted for KBO DFS players, the Doosan lineup was by far the most critical with a huge 14-run game. The night’s top pitcher was Mike Wright who cruised to an unspectacular win, KBO DFS players missed out on two gems from the later slate, with LG’s Woo-chan Cha and SK’s Seung-won Moon striking out seven Bears over seven innings in a combined four-hit shutout.

KBO DFS Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Hitters

Tonight’s slate sees a lot of game totals come down with some high-quality pitching. Three of the five games are carrying 9.5 run totals, with only the NC vs. Doosan game breaking the 10-run mark. There should be plenty of offense in that one, but it’s going to be tricky to get past the popular builds. There’s some sneaky quality that I like the looks of tonight though, so we might be able to find few good angles to attack this one.

The bulk of this analysis comes directly from reviewing Awesemo’s KBO DFS projections and the top stacks tool. Check out the rest of our KBO content, Awesemo’s projections, rankings, and ownership on the site for all your KBO DFS needs.

As usual, I’m going to look game by game, calling out a hitter or two from each team, and giving some top stacking options as we go. Pricing and popularity will be considered, more so as KBO DFS trends begin to emerge over the coming weeks. The numbers included with Suggested Stack are the projected lineup positions I would target for stacking that team, but do not restrict yourself exclusively to those spots. For example, if it says Wyverns 3-6 it means 3,4,5,6 in the projected lineup. If it says 1-2-3-5 it means those guys. If it means a two-man it will say so. I’m also going to start trying to include positions more, hopefully it helps speed up the process of finding guys as you build lineups.

With lock still hours away (5:30 A.M. EST), official lineups have not been released, so be sure to double-check status before you plug players into your lineup.

Kia Tigers @ Kiwoom Heroes – 9.5 run total (4.76/4.93) – Suggested Stack(s): Tigers 2-6

The Tigers got an unexpected night off with the rained-out double-header last night. After carefully re-reading the KBO’s modified rescheduling rules that I included here yesterday from a KBO beat writer’s Twitter thread, I have no idea when they’re going to play those two games. The Heroes meanwhile took both games of their double-header with the Twins, putting 13 runs on the scoreboard across their two games.

The Tigers get rookie Heroes starter Young-gun Jo tonight. The second-round pick in the 2019 draft has had an up and down start to his KBO career and KBO DFS players could do worse than targeting him with bats here. Jo hasn’t been able to get out of the fourth inning in any of his last three starts and has allowed 20 hits and nine walks in his 15.1 innings. This looks like a great spot and the Tigers rank fourth in stacks on DraftKings. Their limited ownership projection is even better news. On FanDuel they rank similarly but are getting a bit more notice. Min-sang Yoo ($7/$3,400) will never be confused with Mike Trout in the statistics, but he’s a capable bat when he gets playing time and makes a good low-owned bottom end of a Tigers stack. The only hitter on this team projected for more than 10% ownership on DraftKings is Hyung-woo Choi ($11/$4,800) at a playable 15%. Mix and match everyone from the top down at will. Ji-wan Na ($9/$3,700) is always one of our favorites here and his price still hasn’t come up. Ho-ryeong Kim ($10/$3,800) has been absolutely raking since coming off the injured list at the start of the month and is a killer option in the leadoff spot here.

With Drew Gagnon on the hill a breakout total would be asking a lot of the Heroes tonight. KBO DFS owners would probably do well to look elsewhere. Gagnon is third in the KBO with a 25.8% strikeout percentage and has been absolutely lighting up KBO hitters. The Heroes rank in the bottom half of stacks tonight and there only appears to be a small ownership edge on FanDuel to speak of. With not many people going this way you can feel free to play the big popular bats. On DraftKings both Byung-ho Park ($14/$4,500 and Dong-won Park ($10/$5,300) are under 6% ownership, while everyone except B.H. Park is under 5% owned on FanDuel. Keon-chang Seo ($11/$4,200) and Ha-seong Kim ($16/$5,400) up top both make strong options and the positions will allow you to build straight down from the top tonight, but ultimately I like Gagnon to snap the Heroes’ current winning streak at eight games tonight.

KT Wiz @ Hanwha Eagles – 9.5 run total (5.16/4.54) – Suggested Stack(s): Wiz 3-4-5-6-8

The Wiz only managed one run in the early game last night but more than made up for it in game two, jumping all over Dinos ace Chang-mo Koo for five early runs in his four innings, en route to a 19-6 romp. The Wiz picked up a home run from Mel Rojas Jr. but otherwise did all their damage by keeping runners moving and pounding out 17 hits.

Tonight, the Wiz get Warwick Saupold who has been steady so far for the Eagles in 2020. He’s not a big strikeout guy but limiting hitters to 0.31 home runs per nine and walking only four percent of opponents has kept scores against him low. Despite that, the Wiz rank third in the stack tool tonight, so we’re going to need to get to some of these bats. Jae-gyun Hwang ($8/$4,800) is still too cheap, but people are starting to notice, make sure to work in some lower owned bats along with him and the more popular Wiz above him. Jeong-dae Bae ($9/$2,800) is a great option at a low price and limited ownership from the leadoff spot in this lineup. You can get different with your catcher spot on DraftKings by dropping down to Sung-woo Jang ($10/$3,500) in this lineup as well.

The Eagles had a big night of their own, riding a home run and four RBIs from Eun-won Jung in a 9-2 victory over Samsung in the late game. The matchup tonight against Hyeong-jun So could provide opportunity for them to take care of business again, but they’re drawing more ownership than I would like. If you go this route make sure to include hitters like Kwang-min Song ($9/$4,100) and Tae-kyun Kim ($7/$3,600) where both the price and ownership will help you fill out constructions.

LG Twins @ SK Wyverns – 9.5 run total (5.42/4.30) – Suggested Stack(s): Twins 1-3

The Twins are in full-on crisis mode coming into their game with the Wyverns as losers of six straight, dropping them from second to fourth in KBO standings. They need a major get-right spot and KBO DFS players seem to think this is it.

Facing Geon-wook Lee, the Twins have one of the higher implied totals on the board, more than a half-run higher than the average tonight, and the Twins rank second in the stack tool. Unfortunately, they’re drawing nearly double the ownership as the probability of success, making this an extremely tricky spot to attempt to roster. Most of the quality we want is in the top five bats in this lineup, but they’re all going to be in nearly 30% of lineups on DraftKings and not much better on FanDuel. Roberto Ramos ($17/$5,600) alone is projected for more than a 60% share on FanDuel, as we’ve touched on before with baseball’s variance that’s just an unplayable number as a one-off, and difficult to get to in stacks. Chang-gi Hong ($5/$2,400) is an affordable option to help make your stack slightly different and more affordable, if he’s hitting sixth where we have him projected tonight. This will still be a popular differentiation play though, so you’re going to need to get different in other ways to ensure a unique construction. This could be a good spot to leave a lot of salary on the table in some lineups, for example. Playing a three-man with just the top of the lineup could be another off-beat approach.

With Casey Kelly on the mound for the Twins they should be able to get back in the win column, and I really don’t like much about the Wyverns against him here. They rank next to last in stacks on both sites and have one of the slate’s lowest implied totals. Jamie Romak ($13/$4,400) and Jeong Choi ($15/$4,700) will be the only popular hitters on this team, with Choi drawing ownership on DraftKings while Romak is more popular on FanDuel. Getting to the pair along with one other bat for a three-man is probabaly my favored approach where I’m playing Wyverns, and I like Jong-wook Ko ($7/$3,800) for that purpose.

NC Dinos @ Doosan Bears – 10.5 run total (5.58/5.14) – Suggested Stack(s): Dinos 3-4-5-7-8

The Dinos won the quiet 3-run game early against the Wiz last night before dropping the later contest in style. The Bears put up 14 runs in the game that counted for KBO DFS early before getting shut out in their second game last night. With teams starting to nip at their heels the Dinos need to get their offense back in gear. With the Bears trailing by just 3.5 games this series should be tense and interesting.

Tonight, they draw Jong-gi Park who joined the rotation two weeks ago as an injury replacement who may stick around. The 25-year-old has had a good start and a bad one so far but is likely far out of his depth here. The Dinos bats look terrific again here today, ranking atop stacks on both sites. Their ownership is still down as well, making this a phenomenal looking spot going in once again. Aaron Altherr ($16/$5,500) has slid back down this lineup as teammates recover from injury, but he’s a strong option from late in the batting order and was my home run pick from the Dinos tonight. Getting to any of these bats in various combinations will be a great approach to tonight’s slate, I like them for full stacks and for your three-mans. There is quality from top to bottom, we’ve deployed Jin-hyuk No ($9/$4,100) successfully from a few spots in this order so far this season, as a wrap-around option to get different with from the bottom of the order he has definite appeal. The mashers in the middle should never be overlooked of course. Catcher Eui-ji Yang ($14/$5,800) is popular but not so owned that you can’t use him in stacks. KBO DFS owners still seem to be slow picking up on Jin-sung Kang ($15/$4,700) as well.

Dinos pitcher Hak-ju Lee has been capable through most of the KBO season and his career so far, but this could be a tough spot for him. The Bears land around the middle of the stack tool but could provide some sneaky quality tonight. On FanDuel in particular, they look to be about half as owned as they should be. Jae-il Oh ($15/$3,900) coming back from injury helps to solidify the middle of this lineup and Jose Miguel Fernandez ($17/$5,700) continues to rake with no one on him, now carrying a .372/.433/.546 slash on the year. Those two make terrific starting points for your Bears stacks, and there are a lot of directions you can go with bats and positional flexibility in this lineup. Kyoung-min Hur ($8/$2,300) is cheap and should be hitting in a run producing spot for the Bears here, and Kun-woo Park ($13/$3,400) will be under-owned on FanDuel for the opportunity provided by leading off or this team.

Samsung Lions @ Lotte Giants – 8.5 run total (3.92/4.78) – Suggested Stack(s): Giants 1-2-3-4-6

With the Giants raining out and the Lions getting rolled by the Eagles last night there’s not much to touch on in a recap. The odds-makers have tonight’s game looking like a pitching duel with the night’s lowest total and both teams implied for under five runs. This is a spot that the projections and top stacks aren’t liking much at all.

The Lions rank dead last in the stack tool on both sites in their matchup against Giants ace Dan Straily. Straily has been cruising and posting quality scores for KBO DFS owners in most of his starts. He should have no real issues with a Lions team that is down few important bats, including Tyler Saladino. If you’re a huge Lannister fan and have a weird thing about Lions, you could drop the two through four hitters in as a three-man here. Hae-min Park ($7/$2,700), Ja-wook Koo ($9/$4,700) and Won-seok Lee ($8/$4,100) are the quality bats we expect to see there tonight.

The Giants are in a slightly better spot taking on Tae-in Won on the mound for Samsung. The 20-year-old Won is pitching well on the surface, but his FIP leaves a lot to be desired and he doesn’t strike hitters out at an impressive clip. If you have to play bats from this game I would make them Giants, but I don’t love it from near the bottom of stack rankings. My favorite bat in this lineup tonight is Jun-woo Jeon ($12/$4,400) who pulls one of the slate’s better power numbers in my home run model tonight. I would focus on the top half of the lineup here, mix and match hitters like Ah-seop Son ($13/$3,800) and Dae-ho Lee ($10/$3,800) although I wouldn’t be too excited about Dixon Machdo ($10/$4,600). He’s fine and should be hitting in a favorable spot in the lineup, he’s just more of a glove and always going to seem a bit overrated as a KBO DFS option.
