Drew Rucinski
Rucinski was essentially a replacement level pitcher in the majors, mostly due to a lackluster strikeout rate. That has changed in the KBO. Rucinski has seen his strikeout rate jump to 24% in 2020. That bump in strikeout rate has helped him throw 50.3 innings of 3.64 FIP. That ranks 9th among qualified starters this year. At -227, Rucinski and the Doosan Bears are the biggest favorites of the slate. Based on everything above, and the massive ownership he’s currently projected for, Rucinski is the clear cash play of the day on both sites.
Chris Flexen
If you need a second starter, Flexen looks to be the next best option. He’s actually one spot behind Rucinski in the FIP rankings this year. Surprisingly, the strikeouts haven’t been there for Flexen like you would expect. A 20.6% strikeout rate is fine, but Flexen threw 78 innings for the Mets’ AAA affiliate last year with a 27% strikeout rate. The stuff is definitely there. If he finds that sort of form, the KBO will be in trouble. If it wasn’t for Odrisamer Despaigne, Flexen would be a bigger favorite than he is. For now, I’ll settle for getting my second favorite starter at an ownership discount on FanDuel.
