Phillies vs. Giants ‘Rapidfire’ Contest (5x Buy-In)

Monkey Knife Fight MLB Fantasy Picks Luis Castillo

Interestingly enough, there are a handful of Giants batters who have had success going up against Phillies starter Zach Eflin in the past. Mike Yastrzemski is not one of them. He is yet to record a hit off of Eflin, only reaching base once via a walk in five prior plate appearances. When looking at this Monkey Knife Fight MLB Rapidfire contest, it’s impossible to justify laying half a run or RBI with Yastrzemski over Wilmer Flores. The latter carries an eight-game hitting streak into Sunday’s game and has two prior hits off of Eflin over eight at-bats.

The MLB picks favorite in the second matchup is Buster Posey. Although he has a .308 career batting average against Eflin, he is matched up against red-hot teammate, Brandon Belt. Belt has 11 total hits over the last six games. He has also homered in each of the first two games of this series against the Phillies. If he continues that home run streak today, he could earn four total bases with one swing of the bat. Belt +0.5 is the preferred play.

In the final matchup to round out this Monkey Knife Fight MLB picks contest, look to lay 0.5 total bases with J.T. Realmuto. Although his Phillies teammate, Andrew McCutchen, has had a far better series through two games, Realmuto has been the much more consistent player over the course of the season. This is the first time either player has faced Giants starter Sammy Long. The sure-hitting Realmuto is the more appealing choice.

Reds vs. Padres ‘More or Less’ Contest (3x Buy-In)

Monkey Knife Fight MLB fantasy picks Luis Castillo

The Reds came into this weekend series against the Padres on a roll. Unfortunately, their momentum has quickly been stifled on the West Coast. Luis Castillo will try to help Cincinnati prevent a four-game series sweep this afternoon. It has been a very turbulent season thus far for Castillo. Seven shutout innings in his most recent start was good enough to lower his season ERA to 5.83. That is a far cry from what expectations were coming into the campaign. It is tough to envision him sticking around long enough to accrue more than five strikeouts against a dangerous Padres lineup. As a team, San Diego averages the fifth-fewest strikeouts per game.

The Reds are also one of the better lineups in the MLB when it comes to avoiding strikeouts. It would take a lot for Padres starter Dinelson Lamet to exceed the total of 5.5 strikeouts today. Lamet has only reached that threshold twice in his last 10 starts. He has also only pitched a full five innings once over his last 10 appearances. Unless he really finds a groove early, Lamet is unlikely to go over on this contest. The fact that his strikeout total is identical to Castillo’s is honestly quite shocking.
