Now that the NBA season is finally winding down, I’ll be shifting my focus to baseball. If you’re looking for my thoughts on the whole slate, check out our strategy video. For now, these are my (Josh Engleman) spotlight hitters for Tuesday night. Awesemo will also weigh in with his thoughts later this afternoon.
Wilmer Flores
FD: $2200 | Fpts: B | Value: A
DK: $2900 | Fpts: B | Value: A
Flores finds himself in a prime spot on both sites, but he gets there for different reasons. On FanDuel, Flores has a $2200 price tag, which is a bargain for a guy projected to hit 3rd on a Mets’ team with the 2nd highest non-Coors implied total. On DraftKings, Flores has dual positional eligibility (2B/3B) and a sub-$3000 price point, which really helps from a flexibility standpoint.
Tommy Pham
FD: $3200 | Fpts: A | Value: B
DK: $3400 | Fpts: A | Value: A
Pham owns a career .377 OBP and .461 SLG against lefty pitching, and he’s lucky enough to have a tasty lefty match-up vs. the Brewers and Brent Suter. Of all batters last year with 100 PA vs. Lefties, Pham had the second lowest rate of soft contact at 8.1%. He looks great in the 2-hole with a line-up primed with righty bats.
Dexter Fowler
FD: $2800 | Fpts: A | Value: A
DK: $3100 | Fpts: A | Value: A
Tommy Pham is out of the lineup tonight, but Dexter Fowler is still sitting at the top of the Cardinals order with that same tasty match-up. Fowler has a .375 OBP, .448 SLG and .161 ISo vs. lefties over the past three years. That line, coupled with his lead-off spot, describes a player that should be more expensive on both sites. Fowler has upside AND value tonight against the Brewers.
Manuel Margot
FD: $2800 | Fpts: A | Value: A
DK: $3900 | Fpts: A | Value: A
Margot gives you all the benefits of Coors Field without the inflated Colorado pricing, particularly on FanDuel where he comes in at $2800. The Padres have the 3rd highest implied total on the slate and Margot is currently projected to lead-off. Margot has flashed some power versus lefties in his young career, with a .179 ISO in 159 plate appearances.
Awesemo’s Notes
I think that Flores, Fowler, and Margot are all great plays today and they will be in a lot of my cash and tournament lineups. They check all of the boxes; players high in the order for cheap prices with favorable matchups.
Pham is not playing tonight
Awesemo, and other bats that you like? maybe 1 to add to this list? ha
