Pitchers
Jacob deGrom
The ownership between Gerrit Cole and deGrom should be pretty even, but the talent gap in deGrom’s favor and the possibility of getting him at lower ownership makes me lean his way in GPPs. Despite the tough matchup against the Red Sox last time out, deGrom showed us why he is completely matchup-proof at this point, striking out 12 in 7 innings in Fenway. While we can’t expect a repeat performance, he’s a fantastic GPP play at a decreased price on DraftKings.
German Marquez
Marquez had his first “bad” start in what seemed like months in his last outing, as he went 6 innings with 4 strikeouts while allowing 3 runs. That may be enough to abandon the Marquez ship for some, but this is a spot he can dominate, as the D-Backs strikeout over 24% against righties for the year, and over the last month against righties that number rose to 26.7% (highest in MLB). 30+ DK point upside at low ownership on a less-than-stellar pitching slate sounds good to me.
Stacks
Yankees (vs. Yefry Ramirez)
While I don’t think Ramirez is a bad pitcher, this is a pretty terrible matchup for him going into Yankee stadium with the wind blowing out to left. They won’t be a secret tonight with their near 6 Vegas total, but their ownership shouldn’t be out of hand because we have 14 games to choose from. Ramirez has issues against lefties, allowing an over 30% Line Drive rate and .363 wOBA, so guys like Hicks and Gregorious make for great plays in addition to the notable righties like Judge, Stanton, and Sanchez.
Dodgers (vs. Eric Lauer)
Similar to Ramirez against lefties, Lauer has major issues against righties, and he’ll get 9 of them tonight in LA. The Dodgers will bring out a variety of lefty-mashers in Machado, Turner, Kemp, Hernandez, and Dozier, all for $4,700 or cheaper on DraftKings, so Lauer’s 31% Line Drive rate and 40% hard-hit rate to righties should allow the Dodgers to tee off.
Hitters
Nomar Mazara (vs. Erasmo Ramirez)
Jay Bruce (vs. Joe Ross)
Mike Moustakas (vs. Ivan Nova)
