DraftKings and FanDuel Spotlight Pitchers, Saturday 8/4

The following Spotlight Pitchers were selected by Awesemo.com writer Jake Hari. For more analysis on the slate, check out Awesemo’s Rankings and Ownership Projections.

Jose Berrios ($11,00o DK/$10,700 FD)

Berrios is someone I was worried about a few weeks ago in terms of his health, but after keeping his velocity steady over his last couple starts, throwing a dominant outing against the Blue Jays and surviving against the Red Sox in Fenway, I’m back in on him. The Royals have one of the worst lineups in the MLB and they haven’t been making as much contact lately, striking out over 22% of the time against righties over the last month. Berrios is expensive, but I’m expecting a big outing here at home against one of the worst teams in baseball.

Kevin Gausman ($8,400 DK/$6,600 FD)

Gausman will make his debut tonight with the Braves against a lowly Mets squad that is also struggling to make contact against righties (22% K-rate over the last month). Gausman is good at getting Swingings-Strikes and despite the low strikeout numbers overall, does have a lot of upside in this spot. This becomes an even better spot for Gausman if we see Tyler Flowers behind the plate, who is one of the best game-callers and pitch-framers in all of the MLB. At $8,400 on DK, Gausman is my favorite mid-tier pitcher on the slate.

Edwin Jackson ($6,400 DK/$6,800 FD)

Jackson is a pitcher I’ve been reluctant to use as I haven’t quite bought into his recent results, but this matchup and park is phenomenal for a righty pitcher. The Tigers been brutal over the last month against RHP, posting a 61 wRC+ and a 25% K-rate, so even Jackson, who doesn’t get a lot of swings and misses, can rack up strikeouts here and go deep. The price, the park, and the matchup is right, and as long as he’s not overly chalky, Jackson provides some nice savings in GPPs where there is little to like down in this range.

  1. Whether Edwin Jackson (OAK) comes through or not versus the Tigers, your analysis through observation is “SPOT ON”. The Tigers are struggling mightily and if the Oakland bats remain hot, going beyond the 7th innings seems automatic for Jackson. A steal at $6,400!
