The following Spotlight Pitchers were selected by Awesemo.com’s Director of Content Josh Engleman.
J.A. Happ [6.7 IP, 2.0 ER, 7.1 K, 1.7 BB]
Happ is making his debut with the Yankees, and he couldn’t be in a better spot. The Royals have been significantly below average against left handed pitching this season, with a .127 ISO and 86 wRC+. They also have the 7th highest strikeout rate. With the Yankees offense behind him, Happ has the best combination of upside and price on the slate.
Lance McCullers [6.1 IP, 2.4 ER, 7.5 K, 2.9 BB]
I’ll be honest. McCullers is risky. I like him much more in GPPs than I do in a cash scenario. The Rangers haven’t been all that great against right handers this year, which is appealing. The best part of this matchup for McCullers is the Rangers massive strikeout rate this season (25.3%). McCullers is in a position to rack up a ton of strikeouts. I don’t expect him to go super deep in this game, but he has the best opportunity to go for 10+ strikeouts. That’s the sort of performance that can help win a GPP.
