Let’s focus on three players — one pitcher, one infielder and one outfielder — to be MLB DFS picks for tonight’s MLB Yahoo Cup contest.
MLB Yahoo Cup Fantasy Baseball Picks | Round 23
MLB DFS Pitcher: Wade Miley — $37
Pitching is brutal on tonight’s 15-game slate and could get even worse if the weather in Philadelphia and Baltimore does not cooperate. If Aaron Nola and Shane McClanahan are taken off the board as a result, rostering Gerrit Cole with any punt looks like the preferred route to go. And there are two that stick out at first glance that are mostly matchup driven: Wade Miley ($37) against the Marlins and Steven Matz ($34) against the Tigers. But utilizing Awesemo’s Top Pitchers Tool, the edge goes slightly to Miley and his 11.7% chance of putting up a top-two score on the evening, as opposed to Matz, who carries just an 8.3% shot of ending up optimal.
Considering how brutal the Marlins lineup looks on a day-to-day basis, it should come as no surprise that a pitcher projects well in this matchup. And while Miley only sports an 18.7% strikeout rate on the season, that total is likely to be buoyed substantially considering the Marlins strike out at a whopping 28.1% rate against left-handed pitching, by far the highest mark in baseball. And while Miley’s control has been a bit suspect of late, walking at least three batters in four of his past six outings, his elite 33.8% hard-hit rate should help him limit any potential damage those walks could cause. Be sure to keep an eye on the weather, as Nola for just $5 more is the priority here. But assuming that game has issues, siding with Miley in Yahoo Cup lineups is a decent enough alternative.

MLB DFS Infielder: Bo Bichette — $14
As the American League East race has heated up, the Blue Jays have certainly cooled down. Going 4-6 in their past 10 outings has put them 12.5 games behind the first-place Rays, and now they face an uphill climb to get out of fourth place in the division. However, a three-game set with the Tigers this weekend should help the cause, especially against projected starter Matt Manning and the loads of hard contact he gives up. Awesemo’s Top Stacks Tool loves the spot for the Blue Jays as well, giving them the third-best top stack odds of the night.
If trying to isolate just one bat that sticks out from the Blue Jays side to roster, it has to be Bo Bichette. Bichette has been in a major slump of late, slashing just .203/.250/.234 over his last 15 games. But on the other side, those struggles have resulted in a steep salary decrease down to $14. He is a substantially better hitter than what he is demonstrated of late, so expect him to turn things around sooner rather than later. Bichette should rebound against a putrid starter in Manning, making him the best value on the Yahoo board tonight.
MLB DFS Outfielder: Avisail Garcia — $23
Like most slates with every team in play, the list of viable outfielders is endless. But one player that never garners any attention but continues to quietly smoke baseballs is the Brewers’ Avisail Garcia. Garcia leads the team in xBA (.288), xSLG (.522) and home runs (24). He gets a solid matchup in Target Field against Twins southpaw Andrew Albers, who performed decently at Triple-A this season but tends to get lit up at the big-league level. Garcia makes for an under-the-radar one-off against any lefty, so if trying to make up ground towards the end of the MLB Yahoo Cup, feel free take a shot on his upside.
