Fantasy Baseball MLB DFS Picks for DraftKings + FanDuel Opening Day
Given the way this slate is setup, Cole is my number one GPP option on FanDuel and DraftKings. In particular, I like the idea of paying up for Cole on FanDuel. You can get a massive ownership discount compared to Scherzer, which should offset the $700 increase in price. Current projected lineups show the Nationals with three left-handed bats, which is music to the ears of Cole owners. in 2019, Cole struck out 44% of all lefties. It’s not like things were easy for the righties, though. The strikeout rate was only 36%, but he makes up for that with a .242 xwOBA and a .113 xISO. Based on performance, Cole and Scherzer are equals. The reduction in public ownership is what makes Cole my priority.
Scherzer is tricky. He’s the no-brainer cash game play on both sites. DraftKings made him $8,600, which means he has to be in your cash lineup. In GPPs, I think he’s a bit over-owned. Luckily for Scherzer, the Yankees projected line-up fits him well. In 2019, righties struck out in 39% of their plate appearances, with a .225 xwOBA and .116 xISO against. That should help him navigate the monster power up and down the order. If you pair these guys, be sure to pay close attention to the rest of your lineup. You’ll need to make some ownership decisions in order to stay unique on a two-game slate.
