Top Pitchers
Corbin Burnes ($10,200 DraftKings/$11,500 FanDuel) has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, and his 34.4% strikeout rate and 2.42 xFIP lead the slate. He has struggled a bit recently, striking out 27.2% of hitters and posting a 3.23 xFIP over his last five starts, but his velocity has been in line with his season average. He has a difficult matchup against the Giants, but he still projects as one of the top pitching options tonight — especially on DraftKings, where he is not much more expensive than the other top-tier pitchers.
Zack Wheeler ($10,000 DraftKings/$10,600 FanDuel) has a more favorable matchup than Burnes, as he takes on the Nationals. Wheeler has struck out 29.1% of hitters this season and has a 2.77 xFIP, and he averages nearly seven innings pitched per start this season.
Robbie Ray ($9,700 DraftKings/$10,900 FanDuel) has a 31.6% strikeout rate this season, which is the second highest on the slate behind Burnes. He faces the Orioles tonight, who have a 3.4 implied run total — lower than the Giants or the Nationals. Ray has cut down on his walks this season, which has allowed him to go deeper into games. He has been lucky in some areas, as he has stranded an unsustainable 89.3% of runners this season, compared to a career average of 76.4%, and opponents have a .270 BABIP compared to .307 for his career. Still, he is one of the highest-upside pitchers available tonight.
German Marquez ($8,500 DraftKings/$9,100 FanDuel) has a fantastic matchup against the Rangers, who have an 81 wRC+ and 23.4% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. Marquez has had a good season overall but has been even better outside of Coors Field. In his games away from Coors, Marquez has struck out 26.4% of hitters and has a 3.34 xFIP, compared to a 23.9% strikeout rate and 3.51 xFIP at home.
