Main-Slate MLB DFS Picks
Los Angeles Dodgers at RHP Kyle Wright – 5.5 implied runs
Keep in mind the playoffs are now at neutral sites with the Astros and Rays playing at Petco Park. The Braves and Dodgers are playing in Globe Life Park tonight.
Try as I might, I just cannot get away from the Dodgers as the recommended play even though they are clearly the most obvious. Pressure is starting to mount with the Braves holding a 2-0 lead. However, it is hard to see the Los Angeles lineup going quietly into the night. We saw that on Tuesday where the boys in blue plated 7 runs in the final three frames after being blanked for six innings.
Atlanta has fresh arms in the bullpen, so they should have no issue pulling Wright early. Over his last 138 righty/lefty matchups, Wright has ceded a 2.17 HR/9 with a 14.5% walk rate and a .271 ISO. Same-handed batsmen have gotten to him as well with a 1.56 HR/9, 15.2 BB% and a .165 ISO.
As I have highlighted several times this post-season, the Dodgers are basically an All-Star team. Cody Bellinger (.279 ISO), Max Muncy (.281) , Corey Seager (.239) and Joc Pederson (.297) have astounding power numbers against righties since the beginning of the 2018 season. Chris Taylor, A.J. Pollock and Justin Turner are not that far behind. Then, of course, we have 2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts at the top of the lineup. The pricing has been somewhat loosened up today, which makes sense as people will be bored with no NFL until Sunday.
Tampa Bay Rays at RHP Zack Greinke – 4.7 implied runs
The Rays are looking to get out the brooms, as they are now up 3-0 on the Astros. Greinke has not made it beyond the fifth inning in a month. Even more telling, he has not completed that inning in his last three starts. This year his fastball is down from 89.5-90 to 87 mph, which is only a tick faster than his changeup. He is trying to survive on ground balls and poor contact. This is just not going to work against a Tampa Bay lineup with underrated power.
Austin Meadows, Ji-Man Choi and Brandon Lowe are the trio to target at the top of the order. It was a bit of a surprise that Choi was not in the lineup yesterday against righty Jose Urquidy, but there has been no word of injury. Kevin Kiermaier was hit on his left wrist by a 99.7 mph fastball last night, so he may be out of the lineup today. If Hunter Renfroe draws the start, just know he has posted a .247 ISO in his last 719 same-handed matchups and profiles well against Greinke.
