Jacob deGrom

deGrom comes into this slate, as he is on most slates, as the best pitcher on the board. Tonight’s date with Kansas City is not perfect from a strikeout perspective, but deGrom’s massive K-rate put him in play as the best pitcher in all formats. He’s got a 31.6% K-rate on the year, allowing under one home run per 9, and is walking just 6% of hitters in what is another Cy Young worthy season, so the matchup against a Royals team with a 91 wRC+ versus righties is certainly not going to scare me off. He will likely be the top projected arm in Awesemo’s Projections when they come out Saturday morning.

Dinelson Lamet

Betting on the talent when the ownership is reasonable has been a solid strategy in MLB DFS, and Lamet is one of the most talented pitchers on this slate. While he’ll be up against a red-hot Bryce Harper and the Philadelphia Phillies who are an average matchup, Lamet’s slate-leading K% (32.5) make him appealing in GPP formats on all sites. Lamet always presents some risk because of his inability to consistently go deep in games (under 90 pitches in 6 out of his 7 starts), but I’ll take the raw upside here on a main slate with few high-quality arms. He’s not a cash option, but in tournaments, feel free to fire him up, especially on two-pitcher sites.

German Marquez

Marquez’s numbers have dipped this season, but he is still posting solid numbers across the board for fantasy. On the year, he’s at a 24.2% K-rate with a near 13% Swinging-Strike rate and above-average chase rate as well. The Marlins may be in Coors Field, but they’ve been one of the worst teams in the MLB versus righties, and their active roster K-rate is up to 25.3% vs. RHP, and they have the worst ISO in the MLB. How much Marquez I get will depend on his ownership in the Awesemo’s Ownership Projections as we get closer to lock, but he looks like an exceptional, high-upside option in tournaments on all sites.
